Job description

We are currently seeking a "Litigation Law Clerk " for a contract role. Please apply if you would be interested and available for it.

Duration : 03+ Months

Role Mandate :

The group is a team of Paralegals and Law Clerks that primarily handle defence matters issued against client in the Small Claims Court across Canada and respond to various court orders in matters to which client is not a party.

Role Responsibilities :

  • Conducting answers to requests for information (RFIs) from external and internal stakeholders, undertakings, and pre-production requests.
  • Processing and tracking settlement payments
  • Preparation of legal documents (including briefs, pleadings, affidavits, etc.)
  • Communicating with external, internal, and opposing counsel
  • Gather and analyst research data (statutes, decisions, legal articles, documents, etc.)
  • Other litigation administrative tasks as required / needed

Must Have Skills :

  • Law clerk / legal studies college diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience working in the area of litigation at a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Ability to work independently / time management
  • Knowledge of the litigation process in Ontario, as well as familiarity with the variations of litigation processes across Canada (except Quebec)
  • Comfortability with court procedures and the use of precedents
  • Client office experience (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • CanLII experience

Nice to Have Skills :

  • Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario membership in good standing
