Job description

The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney is responsible for prosecuting those charged with violating the criminal laws of Virginia in Virginia Beach. We are seeking a legal information clerk to perform clerical work such as entering data into a case management system, running and analyzing criminal records, generating reports, and filing by terminal digit number. There is required cross-training and back-up of other office functions to meet peak workload demands. The ability to work flexible hours when needed is essential.

In order to be a successful candidate in this position, you must be able to manage multiple tasks, organize detailed information, and understand and follow complex instructions. This person should be VCIN / NCIC certified within 3 months of the start date. We desire candidates who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, work well under pressure, and can meet deadlines. Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Lastly, the selected candidates should be able to sit and operate a computer terminal for up to 6 hours each day and lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.

Preferences for this position include :

  • Academic degree in criminal justice or similar field
  • Professional experience with a Virginia Court or Commonwealth’s Attorney Office
  • Prior professional experience in the criminal justice field
  • Experience running criminal records – NCIC / VCIN Certification
  • Data Entry Experience
  • Experience updating databases and case management systems (i.e. CMS, eProsecutor, Pistol, Axon Records)
  • Experience performing clerical work (i.e. answering and transferring phone calls, filing, copying, etc.)
  • Experience working with file organization and Records Management.
