Job summary

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP is seeking a conscientious lawyer to join the Office of the General Counsel in Toronto. The role focuses on Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs), risk training, and drafting client engagement terms, with significant interaction across risk, finance, privacy, and information security teams.

The ideal candidate has a law degree, is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario, and 3–4 years of experience in a top business law firm or in-house department.

Qualifications

• Law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• 3–4 years of experience in a leading business law firm and/or in-house legal department.
• Experience negotiating, drafting, and advising on commercial agreements, engagement terms, policies or related legal documents.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver training or educational programs for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Dedicate time to negotiating and managing Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs) and related client engagement documentation.
• Develop and deliver risk-related training programs for partners, associates, and business professionals; strong public speaking required.
• Coordinate with other Legal Counsel to manage OCG review demands and identify trends.
• Assist in enhancing processes for managing OCGs and vendor contracts; provide internal legal advice on commercial agreements.
• Research legal developments and prepare memoranda and guidance materials.
• Update and communicate firm policies and procedures; provide practical risk management guidance.
