Roles & Responsibilities
- Report to, and coordinate with, the Chief Legal Officer and internal subject matter experts regarding legal matters involving the company.
- Provide internal legal advice, guidance, and negotiate on commercial matters and disputes.
- Develop and negotiate commercial agreements and documentation.
- Oversee the design and implementation of the company’s legal policies and positions.
- Participate in negotiations and documentation related to mergers and acquisitions, commercial opportunities, financing, borrowing, and real estate matters.
- Handle corporate structuring and administration, including finance and shareholder matters.
- Protect the company from legal risks and violations.
- Assess legal issues related to new products and services.
- Coordinate with external counsel on legal matters.
- Guide management on regulatory and compliance issues to ensure adherence to legal regulations.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Experience managing contracts, negotiating terms, and providing strategic legal advice.
- Clear and confident communication skills to explain legal concepts effectively.
- Collaborative approach and strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment, with experience coordinating with internal and external legal counsel.
- Knowledge in litigation, regulatory, employment, and other legal practice areas is beneficial, although primary focus is on corporate and commercial matters.
Education & Experience
- A Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor degree, LL.B, J.D., with active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Manitoba.
- 1 to 5 years of relevant legal experience, either in private practice or as in-house counsel.
