Job summary

We are seeking Legal Counsel with a focus on commercial matters and regulatory compliance, to join our Legal team. This role will provide advisory support to all departments at Paramount Commerce and its subsidiaries.

This position is remote and can be located anywhere in Canada.

What will you do?

  • You will be responsible for drafting, revising and negotiating a variety of merchant, banking, supplier, and software agreements, as well as any other commercial agreements that come down the pipeline
  • Be the final line of review for all commercial agreements, with no oversight required
  • Advise the business on ad hoc legal issues as they arise and work with various business units on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Stay up to date on applicable gaming and payment laws, regulations, policies, case law etc. affecting the business, in various jurisdictions and reporting same to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Work with our legal and compliance team to respond to inquiries from product end-users
  • Create and support continuous improvements of policies and processes and help to implement new document management system
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues in plain English
  • Ability to think ahead and help minimize risks that may arise
  • Other legal / compliance-related research or tasks as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer

What we are looking for :

  • JD / LLB in Canada is mandatory. Prefer 3-5 years of experience.
  • A member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or other provincial law society
  • Strong ability to draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements
  • Good understanding of corporate and commercial laws.
  • Knowledge of major laws and legal issues affecting the online payments and / or the gaming industry
  • A demonstrated interest or experience in tech, fintech, gaming & gambling, or other regulated industry. Experience in these areas is an asset
  • Sound and practical business judgment and ability to handle pressure and manage multiple, high priority, competing projects and deadlines
  • A desire to provide pragmatic advice to the business teams that are moving quickly and do not have time for a law school lecture
  • Strong communicator and collaborative team player with a creative, positive, and energetic approach to problem-solving and achieving results.
  • Adaptable and proactive in fast-paced environments, continuously learning and evolving to better support customers and team goals.
