Hydro One Networks Inc. is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our Law Department, reporting to an Assistant General Counsel. This full-time position is based at Hydro One’s head office in Toronto, with occasional travel. We currently operate a hybrid work model (remote and in-office).

Responsibilities

  1. Provide legal, business, and strategic advice on corporate and commercial matters to various lines of business.
  2. Negotiate, draft, and review commercial contracts including joint use, telecommunications, leases, M&A transactions, sponsorships, and new product agreements.
  3. Review legislation, regulations, and Ontario Energy Board instruments.
  4. Incorporate entities for transactions as needed.
  5. Manage legal risks associated with business strategies and operations.
  6. Participate in strategic planning, provide training, and support business units.
  7. Manage external counsel and act as liaison between external counsel and Hydro One.
  8. Assist other members of the Law Department.

Selection Criteria

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum 5 years of post-call experience in corporate / commercial law.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • In-house legal experience, energy sector knowledge, or experience in a regulated industry is an asset.
  • Ability to collaborate across business units and advise on legal risks and strategies.
  • Leadership qualities, autonomy, and excellent legal and business judgment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
