Job summary

IT International Telecom Inc. in Pointe-Claire, Québec is seeking a Legal Counsel to support contract drafting, negotiation and compliance for marine network projects. A Law Degree and active licensing in Canada or the U.S. are required, with 2–3 years in drafting/negotiating contracts.

You will work in English and French, analyze risks, and prepare memos to ensure contract terms align with project scope. Proficiency with Office 365, SharePoint and OneDrive is expected.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Law Degree from a recognised institution.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice in a Canadian or American jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 2–3 years in contract drafting and/or negotiating.
  • Ability to draft, read, comprehend and interpret contracts and related documents.
  • Excellent English and French communication skills, written and verbal.

Job description

Legal Counsel

IT International Telecom Inc. is an ISO-certified marine network installer offering desktop study, marine route survey, engineering design, installation and maintenance services for submarine cable systems worldwide. IT was formed in 1995 and for over 20 years has been recognized as one of the worlds’ finest marine system providers. IT is currently looking for a Legal Counsel to join its team to support the TBD. The position is located in Pointe-Claire, Québec and provides an excellent working environment, opportunity for growth and learning, a complete benefits package as well as an attractive compensation package.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
  • Evaluation and negotiation of various contracts.
  • Assist in identifying and tendering required subcontractors and suppliers for projects.
  • Draft contracts and related documents.
  • Interpret contracts and ensure compliance with contract terms and the requirements of the scope of work.
  • Identify and analyze contractual risks and formulate comprehensive recommendations.
  • Prepare and issue letters/memoranda regarding commercial/contractual matters.
  • Analyze rationale for contract changes/claims and implementing claims avoidance and mitigation practices/strategies.
Required Competencies:
  • Law Degree from a recognised academic institution.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in a Canadian or American jurisdiction.
  • Recent work history must include a minimum 2-3 years in contract drafting and/or negotiating.
  • Ability to draft, read, comprehend and interpret contracts and/or contractual documents.
  • Excellent English (essential) & French communication skills required, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational, time‑management, analytical and decision‑making skills.
  • Office 365 experience required including Sharepoint and OneDrive.
  • Experience in the construction or marine industry is considered an asset.
