Job summary

Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. seeks a Legal Counsel to join the Legal Services team in Gatineau, QC. The role supports hydro, wind, and other utility-scale power assets across the business with a focus on transactional matters and governance.

Reporting to the Vice President, Legal Services, you will provide practical, business-focused advice, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help manage complex project financings, M&A and real property work.

Qualifications

• Bar admission in Quebec or Ontario with 3–5 years post-call transactional experience.
• LL.B, B.C.L., or JD with membership in good standing of a provincial or state bar.
• Experience in renewable energy, energy/infrastructure sectors or project finance is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on hydro, wind and other utility-scale power assets.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across finance, capital markets, operations and tax.
• Support corporate and project-level transactions, including project financings and M&A.
• Assist with major capex projects and real property matters in procurement and construction.
• Manage compliance with project documents, financings and power purchase agreements.
• Manage relationships with lenders and JV partners.
• Provide governance and corporate secretarial advisory to the company and subsidiaries.

Job description

Reporting to the Vice President, Legal Services, the Legal Counsel will work with a team of lawyers on a wide range of legal services across all functions of the business. This will include transaction execution, commercial and power marketing, as well as providing support on operational, regulatory, real property and general commercial matters. This position offers a prime opportunity to contribute to the success of a dynamic company and is ideally suited to a motivated individual seeking a challenging role.

Location: Gatineau, Quebec office

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of legal and business issues relating to hydro, wind and other utility scale power generation assets.
• Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across the business (including finance, capital markets, operations, and tax) to achieve successful outcomes.
• Support corporate and project level transactions, including project financings, M&A and other strategic transactions.
• Support operations across all areas, including for major capex projects and repowerings involving real property matters and procurement/ equipment supply and construction agreements.
• Manage compliance with project documents (including financings and power purchase agreements).
• manage relationships with external stakeholders, including lenders and JV partners.
• Provide legal advice on corporate secretarial and governance matters for the company and its subsidiaries.

Qualifications

• Member in good standing of the Quebec or Ontario Bar (or another Canadian/U.S. jurisdiction) with 3–5 years’ post-call transactional experience, ideally at a major firm and/or large multinational organization.
• LL.B, B.C.L., or JD and member in good standing of a provincial or state bar.
• While not required, experience and/or demonstrated interest in renewable energy, energy/infrastructure sectors or project finance is considered an asset.
