Job summary

A global healthcare solutions company in Mississauga is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide legal advice across various business areas and assist with compliance and risk management. The ideal candidate holds a Master's Degree and has over 4 years of experience in the life sciences sector. Bilingual English and French candidates are preferred. This is an onsite role with no relocation benefits offered.

Legal counsel works in close partnership with business colleagues on a wide range of issues including clinical research and development, manufacturing, digital technology, and commercialization. As a dynamic site that has both local and global functions, there are plenty of opportunities to explore a wide range of evolving topics. Particular focus on providing pragmatic advice in areas of health technology assessment, commercialization activities, and ongoing digital, privacy, and A.I. related initiatives.

The successful candidate will have experience in core life science industry topics, a demonstrated ability to partner and solve with different stakeholders, and an interest in learning across a broad range of topics.

The Opportunity
  • Interactions with multiple businesses (including Pharma, Pharma Technical, PD, IT, Procurement, and to a lesser extent Diagnostics, Diabetes Care) for the purposes of providing legal advice and coaching across a diverse range of issues. Counsel business on appropriate risk management and mitigation strategies, as well as opportunity acceleration. Coordinate with global and counterpart affiliate colleagues to facilitate the same.
  • Coordination with Compliance Team to provide coordinated legal and compliance guardrails for commercial operations, driving accelerated opportunity realization aligned with business strategy and management of enterprise risk tolerances.
  • Coordination with Contracts Management Group to ensure appropriate level of timely legal input, drafting of additional precedents, and communications and interaction with commercial units.
  • Litigation management
  • Coordination with Privacy functions and related advice
  • General case-specific legal initiatives
Who you are
  • You hold a Master’s Degree (Juris Doctorate / LLB) and 4+ years of experience in a specific Discipline: Licensed to practice as a solicitor / barrister in a jurisdiction in Canada.
  • You have experience working in Life Science, ideally in a matrix organization, as well as strong demonstrated success in building and cultivating collaborative and productive relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • You are collaborative with both legal & compliance colleagues as well as business partners; solutions orientation with sound ability to balance risk and opportunity.
  • You are open-minded and inclusive, generously sharing ideas and knowledge, while being receptive to ideas and feedback from others.
  • You demonstrate familiarity with one or more of health, regulatory, privacy, and contract law, which are preferred.
Preferred:
  • Bilingual in English and French.
