Position: Legal Compliance Advisor

Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Legal Compliance Advisor to ensure the organization adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies within Ontario and federally across Canada. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring regulatory developments, evaluating compliance risks, and implementing effective compliance frameworks. This role is critical in promoting ethical business practices and minimizing legal and regulatory exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and interpret new and existing legislation, regulations, and industry standards relevant to the organization
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal compliance policies, procedures, and controls
  • Conduct internal audits and assessments to identify potential compliance issues
  • Provide legal guidance on regulatory and compliance matters to internal departments
  • Lead or support investigations into compliance breaches or regulatory concerns
  • Prepare and deliver training programs for staff on compliance and ethics-related topics
  • Collaborate with external regulators and legal counsel when required
  • Ensure timely reporting to regulatory bodies and oversee licensing or certification requirements
  • Assist with risk assessments and maintain up-to-date documentation of compliance efforts

Qualifications:

  • LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized Canadian law school
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in legal compliance, regulatory affairs, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of Ontario and federal compliance regulations (e.g., privacy, anti-corruption, workplace safety, financial regulations depending on sector)
  • Experience developing and managing compliance programs
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex legal issues in clear terms
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., healthcare, finance, energy) is an asset
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
