Company Description : Taxpayer Law is one of Canada’s top tax litigation and dispute resolution boutiques. We are looking for an exceptional Legal Assistant to join our team. We have an extensive track record of advising both business owners and individual clients on diverse and complex tax issues. Our mission is to provide strategic, high-quality representation and guidance in resolving tax controversies efficiently and effectively.

Role Overview : We are seeking a Tax Legal Assistant to support our growing litigation practice. In this role, you will :

  • Prepare and organize a variety of legal and administrative documents.
  • Assist in managing case files to ensure seamless scheduling and filing of court documents.
  • Coordinate with lawyers, clients, and court offices to arrange hearings, appointments, and other critical deadlines.
  • Handle billing coordination, file management, and other administrative tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive client information in compliance with all ethical and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document Preparation : Draft and proofread court forms, legal correspondence, and litigation-related materials.
  • File Management : Organize and maintain case materials, ensuring records are accurate and up to date. Open matters, track communication with clients, courts, and internal team members.
  • Scheduling & Coordination : Book court dates, track deadlines, and liaise with court personnel. Coordinate client meetings, handle client inquiries, and arrange necessary follow-ups.
  • Administrative Support : Support lawyers with trial preparation, coordinate witnesses and exhibits, and manage billing, expenses, and general office tasks.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality : Ensure compliance with professional confidentiality guidelines and legal requirements for document storage and disposal.

Qualifications

  • Education : Diploma or Certificate in Legal Assistant or Paralegal Studies from a recognized institution (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Technical Skills : Familiarity with Canadian legal procedures, particularly those involving tax litigation. Proficiency with document management software and the MS Office Suite. Prior exposure to, or interest in, tax law is an asset.
  • Soft Skills : Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Team player with a proactive mindset.
