Job description

Job Responsibilities
  1. General file handling and practice management for Civil Litigation Matters.
  2. Arrange and assist with drafting standard pleadings, and coordinate service and filing of court documents.
  3. Assist in file management, including opening and closing files in a paperless environment, organizing materials, and preparing for questioning, mediations/JDR, and other attendances.
  4. Conduct conflict searches, manage files, and assist with file and limitation lists, tracking tasks with TeamConnect.
  5. Independently manage assigned tasks, utilizing effective time management and communication skills to facilitate resolution through the litigation process.
  6. Draft correspondence and other documents for clients, third parties, experts, etc.
  7. Assist lawyers with litigation management, including prioritizing tasks and scheduling client meetings, questionings, mediations, and JDRs.
  8. Support office administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and vendor payments.
  9. Provide input into procedures and practices, displaying initiative in litigation management tasks.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a legal assistant or equivalent in a litigation department/practice in Alberta, preferably insurance defence or personal injury.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Court rules, practice directions, and procedures.
  • Strong document management skills and proficiency with Definity’s software such as TeamConnect.
  • Proficiency in Outlook and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and execute tasks efficiently with strong turnaround times.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and responsibility, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Graduates of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma program are preferred.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and capable of working in a paperless environment.
Additional Information

Salary Range: $42,400 - $78,100.
