The University of Wisconsin Law School seeks a full-time faculty member to teach Legal Analysis, Advocacy and Writing courses. Responsibilities include developing course materials and providing instruction across various formats, promoting an inclusive learning environment. The position requires a JD and prior law practice experience, contributing to a collaborative faculty team.
The University of Wisconsin Law School, located in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin, is looking for full-time faculty to teach our required 3-credit Legal Analysis, Advocacy and Writing I and II courses in the fall and spring semesters. Both courses develop core skills necessary for law practice, including legal analysis and reasoning, research sources and strategy, and concise, clear writing. In the fall, faculty teach legal analysis and reasoning, research sources and strategy, predictive writing, and other related skills. In the spring, faculty teach analysis and argumentation from an advocate's perspective, persuasive writing, legal correspondence, and oral advocacy skills.
Although faculty follow the program's policies and guidelines to ensure fairness across sections, they develop their own course materials, including lesson plans, in-class exercises, and research and writing assignments. Faculty provide critiques of their students' research and writing projects and meet with students in individual conferences outside of class time. Faculty also hold weekly office hours to address general questions and concerns.
Faculty are expected to attend training sessions and planning meetings with an experienced, friendly, and collaborative group of legal writing colleagues. They are expected to contribute ideas to improve skills instruction, as well as perform administrative tasks associated with instruction. Faculty work under the guidance and supervision of the program director, who is responsible for the overall design, policies, and development of our program of instruction.
