Job summary

Gitksen West Secondary School Society in Gitwangak First Nation is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Teacher to lead inclusive education services and support students' academic, social, emotional, and cultural success.

The successful candidate will collaborate with teachers, Elders, and community partners, develop IEPs and Behaviour Support Plans, and integrate Sim'algya x and Gitksen values into practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education with BC Teacher Certification is required.
• Special Education or Inclusive Education training (Diploma or Master’s) is preferred.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs and Behaviour Support Plans.
• Experience working with First Nations students and culturally responsive practices.
• Strong knowledge of the BC Curriculum and inclusive education frameworks.
• Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate inclusive education services, including the development and monitoring of IEPs and Behaviour Support Plans.
• Provide direct student support through small group, pull-out, and push-in instruction.
• Support teachers in differentiating, adapting, and modifying curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
• Coordinate psycho-educational assessments and collaborate with external professionals.
• Participate in School-Based Team meetings and case management discussions.
• Supervise and support Educational Assistants.
• Integrate culturally grounded and land-based approaches into learning support strategies.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with Ministry guidelines.

Position Summary

The Learning Support Teacher provides leadership and coordination of inclusive education services to support students' academic, social, emotional, and cultural success. Salary & Benefits: GWSSS provides its employees with a competitive salary (based SD82 wage grid) dependent on category and years of experience (ie. Cat. 5 with 5 years of experience is $79,364), moving loan subsidy, and full group health benefits, including pension, life insurance, and dental coverage.
