Job description

SUMMARY:

RCOA is seeking a Learning Support Coordinator to join our inclusive education team. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Inclusive Education, the Learning Support Coordinator will provide quality educational services to students with diverse learning needs, inclusive education requirements, and specific learning disabilities, working collaboratively with teachers, parents, community-based service providers and other team members to create and implement Learning Support Plans (LSPs) or Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique learning experience. This position is ideal for a teacher who enjoys supporting families who educate their children at home.

This position is primarily a work from home position. Attendance at training events three times per year in the Lower Mainland and/or Vancouver Island areas of B.C. is also required.

FTE: Approximately 0.15 - 0.2 FTE position, with potential for growth in the following school year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with teachers, students and parents to develop, review and update Individual Education Plans or Learning Support Plans.
  • Assess student's progress on learning support goals, using assessment data to inform instruction and interventions.
  • Coordinate and allocate school and other resources to support students learning needs.
  • Foster communication with parents, caregivers and external specialists to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Participate in RCOA provided professional training and provide support for teachings on inclusive practices, intervention strategies and accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with the Ministry of Education requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Teacher certification by the B.C. Teacher Regulation Branch or the Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools is required.
  • Experience in learning support or a related field is an asset, along with training or experience in adapting curricular resources and creating Individual Education Plans & Learning Support Plans. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and behavioural or mental health concerns.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to recognize learning challenges, prescribe remediation and evaluate student progress.
    • Understanding of the dynamics and challenges faces by families with children who have learning support needs.
    • Ability to function as a member of an educational team and collaborate with parents, general education staff, therapy providers, support personnel and community agencies.
    • Strong behaviour management and positive discipline skills.
    • Ability to be flexible and receptive to change.
    • Some experience or training in interpreting standardized scores and relevant details of psychoeducational assessments and other assessment reports is an asset.


REMUNERATION

$9,324.90 - $16,678.00 depending on the specific FTE assigned and placement on the pay scale.
