Job summary

Rocky View Schools (RVS) invites two full-time Learning Specialists (K‑12) in Indigenous Learning to join the Education Centre in Airdrie. The role requires coordinating with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to advance culturally responsive teaching and learning across the division.

The successful candidates will support leaders and teachers, plan professional learning, and travel between RVS sites as needed starting August 27, 2026. Alberta Teaching Certificate is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years recent classroom experience.
• Experience with inclusive education across K–12.
• Familiar with Rocky View Schools Practice Guides, Board Strategic Plan, Divisional Education Plan.
• Ability to collaborate with Indigenous communities and Elders/Knowledge Keepers.

Responsibilities

• Support leaders and teachers in implementing decolonized and indigenized practices.
• Assist teachers with incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into daily practice.
• Build division-wide capacity to understand Indigenous perspectives and the impact of colonization.

The Opportunity

Rocky View Schools invitesapplications for twofull-time (1.0 FTE) Learning Specialists (K-12) in the Indigenous Learningteam at the Education Centre in Airdrie commencing August 27, 2026 to June 30, 2030. This position will be under the guidance of the Director of Indigenous Learning. The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as this position requires travel between RVS sites.

RVS seeks an experienced individual who possessesstrong understanding and practices in the inclusion of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and Ways of Knowing and Being.

Responsibilities:

• Supporting leaders and teachers in implementing effective and sustainable decolonized and indigenized practices
• Supporting teachers with the implementation of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into daily practice
• Working collaboratively to support building division-wide capacity in greater understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being and teaching historical, social, economic, and political implications of colonization of Indigenous Peoples and residential schools
• Working collaboratively with a variety of community and educational partners, including community Elders and Knowledge Keepers
• Supporting schools to build and sustain relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, families, and community members
• Supporting schools with culturally relevant programming to support the success and well‑being of Indigenous students
• Supporting the learning experiences of K-12 students by identifying, selecting, and creating high quality, culturally responsive resources which accurately reflect and demonstrate the strength, diversity, and worldviews of Indigenous Peoples
• Developing and facilitating professional learning which helps teachers and leaders to develop and apply foundational knowledge about Indigenous Peoples for the benefit of all students
• Planning and leading professional learning sessions as required including working extensively in schools through small group professional learning, in‑class demonstration and modeling, coaching and mentoring
• Supporting in the design and initiation of division-wide projects, workshops, events, and/or celebrations (e.g., National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, National Indigenous Peoples Day, culture camps, pow‑wows) which develop innovative and creative programming to meet the individual needs of multiple schools
• Utilizing sound foundational knowledge, current research, engagement with community members, and authentic understanding of the experience, history, protocols, and cultures of diverse Indigenous Peoples to support staff in creating accessible, engaging, culturally responsive, and authentic learning opportunities for all students.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

• Ability to work across kindergarten through Grade 12 learning environments

• Collaborate as part of a team to help support leaders and teachers to design and implement inclusive instruction and assessment practices including social emotional learning and academics

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

• Support schools with curriculum implementation

• Commitment to understand Indigenizing and decolonizing practices

• Ability to proficiently use a variety of technology platforms including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications

• Proven methods of supporting students who are self-identified as Indigenous using a strengths‑based approach and inclusive model

The successful candidate must:

• Have a minimum of 5 years recent classroom experience
• Be comfortable working withstaff and students from kindergarten to Grade 12 in inclusive education settings

• Be familiar with Rocky View Schools Practice Guides, Board Strategic Plan, Divisional Education Plan
• Collaborate with other Learning Specialists to support staff in creating accessible, engaging and authentic learning opportunities for students

• Have experience leading a learning community influencing growth of practice
• Have an understanding of the policies and procedures that guide teaching and learning (Provincial and jurisdictional)
