Job summary

Rocky View Schools in Alberta invites applications for a full-time Learning Specialist (Grade 4-6) at the Education Centre in Airdrie, starting August 27, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The role focuses on targeted literacy and numeracy interventions and implementing inclusive instructional practices across Grade 4–6.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Learning Specialists, lead professional learning sessions, and help create accessible, culturally responsive resources while traveling

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years recent classroom experience.
  • Experience with Grade 4–6 in inclusive education settings.
  • Familiar with Rocky View Schools Practice Guides and strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with Learning Specialists to support staff development.

Responsibilities

  • Support leaders and teachers in literacy and numeracy interventions.
  • Implement the RVS Literacy and Numeracy Framework.
  • Support EAL learners and inclusive instruction.
  • Plan and lead professional learning sessions in schools.
  • Analyze data to inform instruction and planning.
  • Collaborate to design accessible, culturally responsive resources.
  • Travel between RVS sites as required.

The Opportunity

Rocky View Schools invitesapplications for afull-time (1.0 FTE) Learning Specialist(Grade 4-6) in the Learning Services team at the Education Centre in Airdrie commencing August 27, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

This position will be under the direction of the Director of Education Services.

The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as this position requires travel between RVS sites.

Responsibilities
  • Working as part of a team to help support leaders and teachers in targeted literacy and numeracy interventions.
  • Supporting the implementation of the RVS Literacy and Numeracy Framework
  • Supporting teachers with EAL learners
  • Collaborate as part of a team to help support leaders and teachers to design and implement inclusive instruction and assessment practices including social emotional learning and academics
  • Support schools with curriculum implementation
  • Commitment to understand Indigenizing and decolonizing practices
  • Support schools with analyzing and using data to inform practice and plan for instruction
  • Plan and lead professional learning sessions for staff as required. This may include working extensively in schools through small group professional learning, working elbow to elbow with teachers, co-teaching, modelling, coaching and mentoring
  • Support staff in identifying, selecting, and creating high quality, inclusive, culturally responsive resources which accurately reflect and demonstrate strengths, diversity, and worldviews
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to work across Grade 4 through Grade 6 learning environments
  • Ability to proficiently use a variety of technology platforms including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven assessment practices aligned with AP 360
The successful candidate must:
  • Have a minimum 5 years recent classroom experience
  • Be comfortable working with staff and students from Grade 4 to Grade 6 in inclusive education settings
  • Be familiar with Rocky View Schools Practice Guides, Board Strategic Plan, and Divisional Education Plan
  • Collaborate with other Learning Specialists to support staff in creating accessible, engaging and authentic learning opportunities for students
  • Have experience leading a learning community influencing growth of practice
  • Have an understanding of the policies and procedures that guide teaching and learning (Provincial and jurisdictional)

  • Applicants must possess or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate. To be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate, you must have applied for initial certification with Alberta Education at https://www.alberta.ca/teacher-certification.
  • External applicants must provide a professional letter of reference, attached to the job application, from their most recent supervisor, relevant to the job opportunity, written on company letterhead, signed and dated within the past 18 months
  • The successful candidate must submit a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of the start of your employment
