Job summary

Wiikwemkoong Board of Education is seeking a Learning Resource Teacher to collaboratively develop, implement, and monitor IEPs and related student support plans. You will work with staff, families, and community partners to ensure equitable access to learning that honors Anishinaabe values and language.

Qualifications

  • Valid Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification.
  • Additional Qualifications in Special Education (Part 1 required; Part 2/3 preferred).
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs in inclusive classrooms.
  • Knowledge of special education legislation, policy, and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other required student support plans.
  • Support identification, placement, and review processes, including case conferences and team meetings.
  • Assist with classroom accommodations, modifications, and differentiated instruction strategies.
  • Work with classroom teachers to co-plan and adapt instruction, assessment, and learning environments.
  • Liaise with parents/guardians to support student progress and engagement.
  • Coordinate referrals and support assessment processes when required.
  • Support school-wide planning for inclusive education and student success.
  • Contribute to school and system-level reporting as required.
  • Support equitable access to education for all learners, particularly those impacted by systemic barriers.
  • Coordinate supports for system-level initiatives such as provincial assessments (e.g., EQAO).
  • Maintain awareness of Ministry of Education policies and Board procedures.
  • Accountable for program quality, documentation integrity, and student outcomes.

SALARY: According to WBE Salary Grid and Qualifications/Experience

LOCATION: WBE

START DATE: August 31, 2026

The LRT works collaboratively with school staff, families, and community partners to ensure equitable access to learning, while reflecting Anishinaabe values, language, and ways of knowing within all aspects of student support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other required student support plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated knowledge of special education legislation, policy, and best practices.

Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.

Knowledge of Anishinaabemowin and/or experience working within First Nations education contexts.

Training in assessment, trauma-informed practice, or mental health supports.
