About the position:
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Learning Forum and under the day-to-day supervision of La P'tite école Principal, you will provide behavioral and social-emotional skills training, develop plans, counsel, and offer solutions to support children.
Duties will include:
For Individual Students:
- Collect information for behavior assessments and analysis
- Develop behavioral plans in coordination with teachers and parents that are research-based and age-appropriate
- Assist when needed to support students with emotional self-management skills
- Train teachers and parents on the implementation of behavioral strategies for consistent use at school and at home
- Share resources and strategies that are age-appropriate and easy to understand and use by the children
- Communicate with parents and teachers to monitor support and progress
- Implement behavioral plans in a safe, supportive, and positive manner
- Continue appropriate data collection to monitor and evaluate programs/plans including feedback from teachers/staff/parents
- Document actions of daily sessions
- Compile a summary of progress and data collection
For small groups and whole classes:
- Provide small group or 1-1 support and specific programming to increase appropriate social interaction (self-advocacy and assertiveness training, sharing, working together, helping, communication, following instructions)
- Provide social skills training for whole classes using active learning strategies including drama, art, movement, and games. Topics may include emotional self-regulation, meditation skills, self-esteem, assertiveness training, relaxation techniques, etc., as directed by the teacher and student needs
- Consult with and assist teachers as they observe, assess, and report on developmental progress of students.
For Teachers and School Teams:
- Contribute to team meetings to share progress, provide data, and recommend strategies.
- Update the database with progress and provide reports to parents, teachers, and administration.
- Train teachers in workshops to use behavioral strategies as part of the professional development program.
- Provide materials and links on behavioral strategies that can be used as part of the Learning Forum virtual school for teachers and parents
The Consultant will perform other duties in the school as directed by the Executive Director, Learning Forum, or the Principal.
Who we are looking for:

- Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree specializing in psychology, behavior analysis, special education, or related fields of study.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of child development including cognitive, physical, and social-emotional changes from birth to age 7
- Training and experience in implementing best practices for early childhood education programs and assessing young children’s development.
- Experience in and a passion for working in a school setting with young children
- Training in behavioral management with current knowledge of theory and practice
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administration, and parents to develop new procedures and strategies with a calm and positive approach
- Strong English communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
- French language is a definite asset.
- Uses a consistent, caring, and supportive approach in working with young children
