Position: Long Term Occasional replacement [1 year contract]

Branch: Senior School (Collège: Grade 6 - Level II,Lycée: Level III -V)

About the position:

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Learning Forum, and under the day-to-day supervision of the Principal of the Senior School, the Learning Specialist works closely with the existing programs and activities of the Learning Forum at the senior school. Your responsibilities will include:

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to students with identified and unidentified learning needs, and assist them in developing effective learning strategies to optimize academic success.
  • Provide professional development sessions and workshops with and for teachers, to promote best practices in teaching and social emotional learning.
  • Work closely with, and provide support to, faculty in the delivery of a variety of teaching and learning strategies that promote best practices for all students and that further the understanding of the unique learning needs of identified students.
  • Model and co-teach to help implement effective learning strategies through differentiation.
  • Monitor academic progress of students with learning needs and maintain an accurate log of student contacts, and home and school communication.
  • Assist in the preparation and sharing of Learning Support Plans from psycho-educational assessments.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings and discussions related to student progress and academic concerns, and help prepare for transitions between grade levels and branches.
  • Liaise with Test Centre Educational Assistant and other Learning specialists.
  • Maintain open, regular and ongoing communication with all constituent groups to support student success, including: consulting external professionals; students and their parents; guidance counselors; teachers; support staff; administrators; and, Directors of Teaching and Learning.
  • Provide learning skills lessons and workshops for the Junior School students on a variety of topics related to academic success, such as study skills, test preparation and classroom learning strategies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date resource list of information regarding effective teaching and learning strategies across the curriculum.
  • Create and maintain partnerships with learning institutions for research and the development of teachers' professional learning and instructional practices.

  • Certified teacher (OCT or equivalent) with a degree in education and Special Education (B.Ed., B.Sp.Ed or M.Ed.).
  • Additional qualification in Special Education (part 1, 2, 3 and Specialist designation) is highly required.
  • Bilingualism in English and French.
  • Experience in working with high school students with identified learning needs.
  • Training in Literacy, Science of Reading and/or Numeracy instruction and remediation.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, assistive technologies and application of accommodations.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years (PYP), Middle Year (MYP) and Diploma Programs and its mission.
  • Experience in curriculum and staff development.
  • Knowledge of current educational research on best practices, differentiated instruction, Universal Design Learning (UDL) and curriculum integration of information technology in the classroom.
  • Superior communication, organization and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collegially, flexibly and collaboratively with educational personnel.
