Position Overview :

The Learning Experience Specialist is characterized by a passion for employing innovative pedagogy and technology to enhance instructional design in virtual and live class settings for Ivey’s degree and non-degree programs. They take ownership and accountability for a spectrum of initiatives, utilizing project management skills and technology insights to craft industry-leading virtual, hybrid, and live learning experiences for Ivey learners.

Engaging with subject matter experts (SMEs), Learning Experience Designers, and internal and external customers, the specialist is responsible for generating learning materials such as graphics, videos, simulations, and interactive experiences. The creation of these involves applying tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods, including activities such as gathering, scoping, building, testing, training, implementing, maintaining, and providing training to internal and external customers.

Tasks and projects are delivered timely and accurately, with good judgment in flagging obstacles and offering observations for continuous improvement. The specialist also plays a role in gathering and analyzing market research, user data, and course feedback to assess programs and identify areas for improvement across EdTech initiatives. They stay current with modern learning design, technology, and accessibility principles, recommending innovative approaches to optimize Ivey’s delivery of business education.

Functioning as a key strategic contributor, they thrive in an experimental environment, collaborating across learning channels and programs. Recognized as a problem-solver and trusted partner, they contribute to maintaining EdTech Lab’s reputation as a hub for teaching innovations and best practices.

Responsibilities :

  • Develop, produce, and implement virtual learning experiences
  • Collaborate with faculty, Learning Experience Designers, CTS, and other stakeholders to develop courses, modules, or experiences for both content conversion and new content deployment, including design, build, quality assurance, and deployment activities.
  • Manage the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of digital learning tools, ensuring each reflects educational requirements, pedagogical standards, and design expectations.
  • Lead multimedia production teams to create learning assets.
  • Coordinate content assets and videos for instructor-led and virtual products with SMEs.
  • Review scripts, storyboards, and content assets; ensure clarity, conciseness, and consistency. Coordinate logistics for design meetings and recordings.
  • Build online activities, assessments, and develop digital content.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and legislation, including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), WCAG, copyright, and privacy laws. Conduct research to improve accessibility.
  • Liaise with internal EDI committees and faculty to implement inclusive learning standards.
  • Lead quality assurance processes to meet or exceed accessibility standards, and generate media to enhance experiences.

2. Testing, Quality Assurance, and Support

  • Review learning experiences at various development stages for content flow and standards adherence.
  • Evaluate and create documentation for learning design tools; recommend applications.
  • Conduct user journey mapping to improve onboarding and post-program learning.
  • Collect and analyze data on user experience, assessments, and program debriefs; communicate metrics to stakeholders. Collaborate with external partners to maintain user accounts and security.
  • Manage a central database of learning content.

3. Planning, Documentation, and Training :

  • Create and oversee training, documentation, and support for SMEs to enhance course development and delivery.
  • Develop training resources, conduct sessions, and support platform setup.
  • Establish training processes to ensure consistent branding and templates.
  • Organize storage of raw materials and graphic files.
  • Host faculty training workshops.
  • Maintain templates and style guides for consistent learning experiences.
  • Develop training materials and support documentation for various platforms.

4. Research and Special Projects :

  • Research learning design solutions for faculty and staff requests, prioritizing LMS-native options.
  • Evaluate new learning technologies and manage their implementation.
  • Represent Ivey at conferences related to learning design and technology.
  • Lead or support special projects as needed.

Qualifications :

Education & Experience :

  • Undergraduate degree in business or education; graduation from an Ivey program is an asset. Certificates in coding, learning design, or accessibility are assets.
  • 2-4 years of experience in UX or e-learning design, ideally in higher education.
  • Knowledge of business theories; familiarity with Ivey or similar content and pedagogy is an asset.
  • Understanding of UI/UX, graphic design, and front-end design is an asset.
  • Experience with multimedia assets using tools like Adobe Creative Cloud is an asset.
  • Experience in experiential learning environments is an asset.

Skills and Abilities :

  • Strong attention to detail and process management.
  • Accuracy in data management and contract tracking.
  • Ability to build relationships and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Salesforce, FormAssembly, and Adobe Sign is an asset.
