Position Description

The McLaughlin Library at the University of Guelph invites applications to fill two positions for Learning & Curriculum Support Librarians at the rank of Assistant Librarian (Continuing Appointment-track) or Associate Librarian (Continuing Appointment) levels. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025.

In keeping with the University of Guelph’s commitment to fostering inclusive excellence through promoting Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, there will be a preference for at least one of the positions for a candidate who is a member of Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, racialized persons, or 2SLGBTQIA+ persons. The positions report to the Manager, Information Literacy, and are members of the Information Literacy (IL) Team within the Learning & Curriculum Support (L&CS) Team. The Learning & Curriculum Support Librarian will:

  1. Use the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education to design, deliver, and assess information literacy instruction, programming, and services within courses, programs, and colleges in in-person, online, synchronous, and asynchronous contexts.
  2. Provide research help services, including knowledge synthesis support (e.g., systematic or scoping reviews), in person and online.
  3. Participate in special projects, committees, and team processes to advance the goals, values, and mission of the IL team, the L&CS team, the McLaughlin Library, and the University of Guelph.
  4. Work collaboratively with colleagues and faculty in a team-based environment.
  5. Maintain current awareness of best practices and emerging trends in information literacy, academic libraries, and higher education.
  6. Engage in scholarship, including research, study, professional development, and scholarly or creative activities.
  7. Engage in service to the University, professional communities, and relevant external communities.

Required Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree or equivalent.
  • Experience providing instruction in a college or university setting and/or knowledge of instructional design and pedagogy.
  • Experience providing reference services and broad knowledge of information sources and tools in academic libraries.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to principles of Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and adopt new technologies and software.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Self-directed, well-organized, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with knowledge synthesis methods and tools, including developing comprehensive search strategies.
  • Knowledge of critical information literacy theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of accessible teaching practices and digital media creation.
