Our Learning Commons (Library) encourages students to become lifelong learners. We promote literacy in all its forms and nurture reading and thinking to foster both self-knowledge and global awareness.

The Learning Commons Co-ordinator oversees the daily operations of the Learning Commons (Library), focusing on creating a welcoming environment conducive to learning. They collaborate with community members to co-create resource guides and recommend resource materials for classes, affinity groups, and councils. Working with other Learning Commons staff, they identify necessary information technology competencies and information literacy skills, integrating these into the curriculum with faculty.

What You’ll Do :

  • Promote information literacy and digital citizenship in all interactions
  • Support students in developing research skills, advising on resource selection, and demonstrating search strategies for databases, eBooks, the ILS (Destiny), and internet resources
  • Assist students with troubleshooting technology and using academic resources for homework and projects
  • Provide patron assistance to students, staff, and faculty
  • Offer reader’s advisory and promote recreational reading through displays, collections, and reading programs
  • Organize and host LC events supporting literacy, innovation, and community
  • Oversee the physical LC space, collaborating with faculty and students on displays and events
  • Participate in selection, ordering, and coordination of resources
  • Maintain and update the library website
  • Manage processing of materials, inventory, weeding, and cataloging

Who You Are :

  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline
  • Graduate of a Library Technician Program
  • Strong knowledge of reading materials suitable for Middle and Senior School students
  • Proficiency with online library databases and digital resources
  • Interest in emerging technologies
  • Familiarity with library OPACs, automation, and ILA modules
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with staff and students
  • Team player with the ability to work independently
  • Physical ability to perform shelving duties
