Job summary
Sandvik in Sturgeon Falls, ON is seeking a Drafting Technician to create accurate 2D/3D drawings and support Lean manufacturing initiatives. You will work with engineering, production and quality teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and compliant, updating documents throughout the lifecycle and contributing to process improvements.
The role requires CAD proficiency (AutoCAD/SolidWorks/Inventor), GD&T knowledge, and strong attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Drafting, CAD Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field
- Associate degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline (asset)
- Formal CAD training through an accredited program
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor)
- Strong GD&T understanding and manufacturing process know-how
- Lean tools/training experience (asset)
- Experience in Lean improvement events (asset)
- Possession of ISO/quality systems knowledge (asset)
- Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or product design environments (asset)
- PLM or document control familiarity (asset)
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel (asset)
Responsibilities
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings, models, and schematics using CAD software
- Update and maintain engineering drawings throughout the product lifecycle
- Interpret sketches and design intent to produce manufacturable drawings
- Ensure drawings comply with industry standards and internal guidelines
- Apply Lean methodologies to improve drafting workflows
- Collaborate with engineering and operations to support Lean initiatives
- Provide timely drawing updates for prototypes and production launches
- Maintain digital file structures and revision control
