Leadership Management Trainee - Operations

Purpose of the Position:

The Leadership Management Trainee Operations (LMT-O) Program is a six-month, paid intensive training designed to equip participants with leadership and industry knowledge for the role of Assistant Trainmaster (ATM). The program requires relocation to a terminal within the CPKC network and includes classroom instruction, online training, workshops, projects, and on-the-job training. Participants will undergo an 11-week manager conductor training course followed by 12 weeks of in-field training to learn how to safely lead yard and train movements.

Position Accountabilities:

  1. Learn and utilize railroad operating systems and local operating plans to assign tasks and improve efficiency.
  2. Complete and pass management train conductor certification; failure to do so will result in removal from the program.
  3. Meet all program requirements including evaluations, assignments, and projects within deadlines.
  4. Lead train and engine operating employees, promote safety, and ensure rule compliance.
  5. Demonstrate effective leadership by committing to results, leading others, and setting an example.
  6. Prioritize work and make decisions aligned with CPKC’s values of safety, development, cost control, asset optimization, and service.

Position Requirements:

  1. Willingness to relocate across Canada upon graduation and throughout your career.
  2. Ability to perform physically demanding work.
  3. GED or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred.
  4. Willingness to travel up to 6 months during training.
  5. Meet all program evaluation requirements and complete assignments on time.
  6. Ability to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions.
  7. Ability to promote safety and hold others accountable to safety principles.
  8. Strong communication and time management skills.
  9. Develop trust and credibility within the organization.
  10. Previous supervisory experience in logistics or operations is helpful.
  11. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
  12. Valid driver’s license.

Additional Information:

Training Location: Mainly in Calgary, Alberta, with some field training across various provinces.
