Job description

As Lead Software Engineer, you would lead a team of engineers to write and maintain tools supporting VFX workflows, focusing on Maya, Production Tools, and Houdini.

Our ideal candidate can collaborate with non-technical stakeholders to define and document requirements, interpret these into technical components, and anticipate and mitigate project scope issues to keep projects on schedule. The Lead Software Engineer sets quality standards, conducts code reviews, and mentors team members through daily engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Take ownership of pipeline initiatives from conception to delivery
  2. Collaborate with pipeline leadership and production stakeholders to gather requirements
  3. Work with Pipeline Architects to define projects, evaluate trade-offs, and estimate efforts
  4. Make decisions on project scope and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  5. Break down work within an Agile framework for timely delivery
  6. Ensure projects align with organizational goals, industry standards, and scalability
  7. Enforce best engineering practices through code reviews and mentorship
Qualifications
  • Minimum 12 years of Python software development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role
  • Experience leading complex VFX pipeline projects
  • Self-directed, organized, and solution-oriented personality
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Experience designing APIs with OOP
  • Deep understanding of VFX workflows and production tools
  • Experience with Flow/Shotgrid and automation in production
  • Knowledge of artist workflows in Maya
  • Experience with Maya, OpenUSD pipelines
  • Understanding of Service-Oriented & Event-Driven Architectures
  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Expertise with Autodesk Maya USD ecosystem features

Salary: $120,000 - $210,000 per year (Vancouver, Canada). Compensation varies based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
