Job summary

NBCUniversal is seeking a Lead Engine Programmer to define, build, and guide core Unreal Engine-based systems for AAA titles in a Montreal-based team. You will provide technical leadership for engine architecture, balance hands-on work with mentorship, and drive long-term technical direction.

You will oversee performance, memory usage, and platform constraints, collaborating with Gameplay, Rendering, Tools, and Production to optimize workflows and deliver high-quality content.

Qualifications

• Expert proficiency in C++, with extensive Unreal Engine experience.
• 8+ years of professional game programming, including shipped AAA titles.
• Strong understanding of Unreal Engine subsystems (rendering, memory management, threading).
• Proven leadership and mentoring of programmers on production teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and collaboration across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of core Unreal Engine systems, frameworks, and engine‑level architecture.
• Define and maintain engine standards for performance, stability, scalability, and maintainability within Unreal Engine.
• Provide technical leadership and hands‑on development for complex engine features and cross‑cutting Unreal systems.
• Collaborate with other engineering leads to ensure Unreal Engine supports gameplay, tools, pipeline, and content workflows.
• Mentor and support engine programmers through code reviews, technical guidance, and best‑practice Unreal development.
• Oversee engine performance, memory usage, and platform‑specific constraints within Unreal Engine.
• Drive engine optimization efforts, identifying bottlenecks and coordinating improvements across Unreal subsystems.
• Establish coding standards, documentation practices, and debugging workflows for Unreal Engine development.
• Support production by identifying technical risks, estimating scope, and planning engine evolution across milestones.
• Debug and resolve complex engine‑level issues involving multithreading, memory, platform integration, and Unreal system interactions.
• Guide Unreal Engine upgrades, custom engine changes, and long‑term technology decisions.
• Stay current with Unreal Engine advancements and low‑level performance techniques.
