Job description

Our client's product teams and enterprise applications have grown considerably over the years. The need to have standards that can be shared across teams has become crucial to the success of our product development lifecycle. This role focuses on evangelizing the company's Design System and leading UI design practices across the organization.

The Lead UI Designer will be responsible for overseeing, leading and creating new components and patterns that are scalable, user-accessible and meet the needs of our customers. You will work with other UI and UX Designers to propose and get alignment on standards to be shared across teams and work in close collaboration with engineers to build and deliver high-quality user interfaces. The Lead UI Designer will manage other UI Designers, provide guidance throughout the design process and grow the team.

Your Job:
  • Be a primary contact for Design System questions and be responsible for establishing a practice and vision that endures to the design, build, document, and maintenance of a library used by many product teams.
  • Communicate the design system's mission and process to other departments (e.g. product management and development).
  • Collaborate with other designers to conceptualize, prototype, and present design solutions for the design system.
  • Ensure new components and designs meet WCAG and WAI-ARIA accessibility standards.
  • Document and review design system's documentation quality, consistency, and usefulness.
  • Define and clarify scope to deliver usable, scalable, and accessible functionalities.
  • Resolve priorities and maintain a backlog of UI components that align with our product's roadmap.
  • Monitor task progress of design, development, and documentation across team members.
  • Lead critique sessions with other designers.
  • Facilitate workshops to get cross-team alignment on new standards.
  • Perform other duties as required.
About You:
  • 6+ years of experience doing visual/UI design for web, desktop and mobile applications.
  • 2+ years of experience leading designers, projects and managing stakeholders.
  • A portfolio showing your UX process, innovation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a design-related discipline is preferable.
  • Experience working with and contributing to design systems and component libraries.
  • Solid understanding of user-centred design best practices.
  • Knowledge of Atomic design principles or similar principles.
  • Knowledge of responsive design and mobile design guidelines.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and approaches.
  • Knowledge of conventional design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch etc.
  • Ability to take ownership and solve problems creatively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and keep organized in a dynamic environment.
  • Motion design experience is an asset.
  • Experience in an Enterprise business environment and Agile is definitely an asset.
