Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Transmission Line Engineer – Grid based in Canada.

As a Lead Transmission Line Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and delivering high-voltage transmission line projects ranging from 69 kV to 765 kV. You will lead technical design activities, ensuring engineering solutions meet industry standards, client specifications, and project requirements. Working on complex grid infrastructure projects, you will contribute to the reliability, safety, and efficiency of electrical transmission networks. You will collaborate directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams while providing technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers. Your expertise will support the development of conceptual designs, technical studies, calculations, and construction-ready documentation. This role offers the opportunity to influence critical energy infrastructure projects while contributing to engineering excellence and continuous innovation.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the design and development of high-voltage transmission lines across the 69 kV to 765 kV range, ensuring technical accuracy, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Mentor, train, and support less experienced engineering and design team members, promoting knowledge sharing and technical development.
  • Coordinate design activities to ensure that project installations and operations comply with engineering specifications, applicable codes, client expectations, and project requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, calculations, and specifications that communicate complex information clearly and meet established quality standards.
  • Independently review engineering deliverables produced by other team members, including calculations, design drawings, and transmission line models developed using PLS-CADD.
  • Develop scopes of work, establish design bases, create conceptual designs, and support the selection of appropriate equipment and materials.
  • Collaborate directly with clients on transmission line projects, helping resolve technical challenges and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Follow established engineering processes and quality procedures while promoting consistency, safety, and continuous improvement throughout project delivery.
  • Apply sound professional judgment when using digital tools, automation, and emerging technologies to improve engineering workflows and deliver high-quality results.
Requirements:
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB)-accredited undergraduate program or a US-based ABET-accredited program.
  • Bring at least 12 years of transmission line design experience, including substantial involvement in high-voltage transmission projects.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with PLS-CADD software and experience developing, analyzing, and reviewing transmission line models.
  • Have experience preparing scopes of work, developing conceptual designs, defining design bases, selecting equipment and materials, and preparing engineering calculations and specifications.
  • Possess direct client-facing experience on transmission line projects ranging from 69 kV to 500 kV.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of relevant engineering standards and codes, including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Be experienced in reviewing design drawings and technical deliverables prepared by other engineers, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, along with the ability to coordinate technical activities and mentor colleagues effectively.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license is considered an asset, as is Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Construction experience and familiarity with ArcGIS are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Show an interest in emerging technologies, automation, programming, or AI-assisted engineering tools where relevant to the role, while maintaining professional accountability and sound engineering judgment.
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada without employer-sponsored work authorization. Additional eligibility requirements may apply because the position may involve access to US export-controlled information.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary: Annual compensation ranging from CAD $146,996 to CAD $192,932, depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Performance incentives: Eligible employees may participate in an annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Comprehensive healthcare: Access to healthcare benefits designed to support employees' health and well-being.
  • Paid time off: Generous leave provisions to encourage work-life balance and personal well-being.
  • Competitive total compensation: A comprehensive benefits package designed to recognize employee contributions and support long-term professional engagement.
  • Professional development: Opportunities to mentor colleagues, expand technical expertise, and contribute to complex transmission infrastructure projects.
  • Technology and innovation: Exposure to digital tools and emerging technologies that support engineering analysis, design quality, and workflow improvements.
  • Inclusive workplace: A commitment to equal employment opportunities, with reasonable accommodations available to candidates participating in the recruitment process.
