Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Calgary, Canada, is seeking a senior transmission design professional for a hybrid role requiring in-office work three days per week and remote work for two days. The candidate will design high-voltage transmission lines (69 kV–765 kV), mentor staff, and coordinate multi-disciplinary design activities with clients to ensure compliance with standards and project specs.

Required is a strong background in transmission design, PLS-CADD proficiency, and experience with drawing

Qualifications

• BS degree from a Canadian EAB/ABET-accredited program or ABET-equivalent.
• 12+ years of transmission design experience.
• Proficiency with PLS‑CADD software.
• Experience preparing scopes of work, conceptual designs, design basis, equipment/material selections, and calculations/specifications.
• Experience working with clients on 69–500 kV transmission lines.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
• Experience reviewing design drawings.

Position Details

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in‑office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission lines in the 69 kV to 765 kV range.
• Mentor and train less experienced design team members.
• Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
• Perform independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS‑CADD.
• Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes.

Qualifications

• BS degree from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board–accredited undergraduate program or a U.S. based ABET‑accredited program.
• 12 or more years of transmission design experience.
• Proficiency with PLS‑CADD software.
• Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, selection of equipment and materials, and preparation and assembly of calculations and specifications.
• Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69 kV through 500 kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
• Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
• We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in Canada for this position.
• This position may require access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Candidates must be citizens of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

• Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
• We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI‑enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation Range

$146,996 - $192,932
