Job summary

Fueling Brains Academy is seeking an experienced Lead/Homeroom Teacher for the Jumping Junipers Senior Preschool (3–5 years) in Calgary. You will anchor the Left Brain classroom, mentor Group Educators and build strong family relationships while ensuring high-quality early learning.

You will design intentional, Montessori-inspired experiences, support independence and readiness for Kindergarten, and collaborate across classrooms to maintain consistency and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Alberta Level 3 ECE Certification required.
  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education or related program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with 3–5 year olds in licensed Canadian childcare.
  • Strong understanding of child development and early learning strategies.
  • Ability to lead a preschool classroom and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Jumping Junipers Left Brain homeroom in an intentional, organized environment.
  • Plan Montessori-inspired, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for ages 3–5.
  • Create activities that foster independence, concentration, problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Support routines, responsibility and confidence within the classroom.
  • Facilitate circle times, structured blocks and small-group learning.
  • Design lesson plans aligned with term structure and executive function goals.
  • Adapt activities to children’s developmental stages and needs.
  • Observe, document and assess children’s learning and progress.
  • Maintain accurate progress records and participate in parent interviews.
  • Collaborate with other homerooms to ensure a cohesive experience.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Fueling Brains Academy is looking for an experienced and passionate Lead/Homeroom Teacher – Left Brain to anchor our Jumping Junipers Senior Preschool classroom, supporting children aged 3 to 5 years.

This is a key classroom leadership position for an educator who excels in an intentional, structured and Montessori-inspired learning environment and understands how to support children's growing independence, concentration, confidence and Kindergarten readiness.

Rooted in the Fueling Brains philosophy, you will create purposeful learning experiences that strengthen children's executive functions, critical thinking, problem-solving, independence, collaboration and foundational skills while respecting each child's individual pace of development.

As the Lead/Homeroom Teacher, you will take ownership of the classroom environment and curriculum while mentoring Group Educators, building strong family relationships and ensuring a consistently high standard of early learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Left Brain Curriculum & Classroom Leadership
  • Lead the Jumping Junipers Left Brain homeroom and maintain an intentional, organized and engaging learning environment.
  • Plan and implement Montessori-inspired and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children aged 3–5.
  • Create purposeful activities that encourage independence, concentration, problem-solving, sequencing and critical thinking.
  • Support children in developing strong routines, responsibility and confidence within the classroom.
  • Facilitate engaging circle times, structured learning blocks and individual and small-group learning experiences.
  • Design lesson plans aligned with Fueling Brains' term structure and executive function goals.
  • Adapt activities and teaching approaches based on children's developmental stages and individual learning needs.
Child Development & Kindergarten Readiness
  • Support children in developing independence, self-regulation, concentration, confidence and problem-solving skills.
  • Create meaningful opportunities to develop the foundational skills required for a successful transition to Kindergarten.
  • Observe, document and assess children's learning and executive function development.
  • Maintain accurate progress records and contribute to parent-teacher interviews.
  • Adjust programming based on individual observations and developmental needs.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and guide Group Educators working alongside the homeroom.
  • Model strong classroom management, intentional teaching and positive guidance practices.
  • Assign purposeful responsibilities and help educators understand classroom expectations and learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with educators across other homerooms to provide children with a consistent and cohesive experience.
  • Contribute to team planning and maintain a positive, accountable and collaborative workplace culture.
Family Engagement
  • Develop strong, professional relationships with children and their families.
  • Communicate children's progress, strengths and areas of development clearly and professionally.
  • Participate in parent orientations and parent-teacher interviews.
  • Share practical strategies with families to reinforce independence and learning at home.
Safety, Licensing & Professional Standards
  • Maintain appropriate child-to-educator ratios and consistently follow Alberta childcare licensing requirements.
  • Ensure health, safety and active supervision expectations are maintained at all times.
  • Model professionalism, empathy, inclusion and respect.
  • Participate in professional development, training, school initiatives and community events.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Alberta Level 3 Early Childhood Educator Certification.
  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related recognized program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with children aged 3–5 in a licensed Canadian childcare or early learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing age-appropriate early learning curriculum.
  • Strong understanding of child development and early learning strategies.
  • Ability to confidently take ownership of and lead a preschool classroom.
  • Strong classroom organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt programming to meet diverse learning needs.
Strong Assets
  • Experience with Montessori or Montessori-inspired early learning environments.
  • Montessori training or certification.
  • Experience supporting children's independence, practical life skills and school readiness.
  • Experience designing structured and intentional learning experiences.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Teacher or experience mentoring, coaching or supervising other educators.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Successful Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Valid Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain within the required timeframe.
  • Ability to participate actively with children, including floor-based and outdoor activities and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work scheduled shifts based on campus operational requirements.
