Job summary

Rooted in a Reggio-inspired approach, you’ll design meaningful experiences that foster executive function, creativity and Kindergarten readiness, while collaborating with the campus team.

Qualifications

  • Alberta Level 3 Early Childhood Educator Certification is required.
  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related recognized program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with children aged 3–5 in a licensed setting.
  • Experience planning developmentally appropriate early learning curriculum.
  • Strong understanding of child development and readiness for Kindergarten.

The Opportunity

Fueling Brains Academy is looking for an experienced and passionate Lead/Homeroom Teacher – Right Brain to anchor our Pondering Pines Senior Preschool classroom, supporting children aged 3 to 5 years.

This is a key classroom leadership position for an educator who thrives in a creative, inquiry-driven and Reggio-inspired learning environment. You will take ownership of the Right Brain homeroom, designing meaningful learning experiences that encourage children to explore, question, create, collaborate and express their ideas.

Rooted in the Fueling Brains philosophy, you will support the development of children's executive functions, creativity, critical thinking, confidence, collaboration and Kindergarten readiness through engaging, play-based experiences.

As the Lead/Homeroom Teacher, you will also provide leadership within the classroom by mentoring and guiding Group Educators, partnering with families and maintaining a consistently high-quality learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Pondering Pines Right Brain homeroom and create an engaging, welcoming and inspiring learning environment.
  • Plan and implement Reggio-inspired, inquiry-based and play-based learning experiences for children aged 3–5.
  • Use children's interests, questions and observations to inspire projects, provocations and meaningful learning opportunities.
  • Encourage creativity, imagination, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
  • Facilitate engaging circle times, learning blocks, projects and daily classroom experiences.
  • Design lesson plans aligned with Fueling Brains' term structure and executive function goals.
  • Adapt programming to respond to individual children's strengths, interests and learning needs.
Child Development & Kindergarten Readiness
  • Support children's development of independence, confidence, self-regulation, problem-solving and collaboration.
  • Observe, document and assess children's learning and executive function development.
  • Maintain accurate progress records and contribute to parent-teacher interviews.
  • Create developmentally appropriate opportunities that prepare children for a successful transition to Kindergarten.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and guide Group Educators working alongside the homeroom.
  • Model strong teaching practices, positive guidance and professional classroom leadership.
  • Assign purposeful responsibilities and support educators in delivering a cohesive learning experience.
  • Collaborate with other homeroom educators to ensure smooth transitions throughout the children's day.
  • Contribute positively to team planning and the broader campus culture.
Family Engagement
  • Build trusting and professional relationships with children and families.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding children's learning, development and classroom experiences.
  • Participate in parent orientations and parent-teacher interviews.
  • Provide families with meaningful insights and strategies to extend children's learning at home.
Safety, Licensing & Professional Standards
  • Maintain appropriate child-to-educator ratios and consistently follow Alberta childcare licensing requirements.
  • Ensure health, safety and supervision expectations are maintained at all times.
  • Model respect, empathy, inclusion and professionalism.
  • Participate in professional development, training, school initiatives and community events.
Required

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Alberta Level 3 Early Childhood Educator Certification.
  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related recognized program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with children aged 3–5 in a licensed Canadian childcare or early learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing developmentally appropriate early learning curriculum.
  • Strong understanding of child development and early learning practices.
  • Ability to confidently take ownership of and lead a preschool classroom.
  • Strong communication skills with children, families and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt programming for different learning needs.
Strong Assets
  • Experience with Reggio Emilia, inquiry-based, emergent, project-based or play-based learning.
  • Experience using children's interests and observations to develop curriculum.
  • Strong learning documentation and observation skills.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Teacher or experience mentoring, coaching or guiding other educators.
Additional Requirements
  • Successful Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Valid Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain within the required timeframe.
  • Ability to participate actively with children, including floor-based and outdoor activities and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work scheduled shifts based on campus operational requirements.
