Job summary

RBC in Toronto is seeking a Lead System Engineer to own critical production services within Global Cyber Security. You will drive modernization, migration, and disaster recovery initiatives while ensuring reliability, security, and performance.

The role emphasizes mentoring, hands-on troubleshooting, and collaboration with OpenShift/AWS/Azure, Docker/Kubernetes, and SAST/DAST processes to uphold security practices.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Python skills with solid Django framework expertise.
  • Knowledge of database systems (SQL, NoSQL) and RESTful API development.
  • Hands-on experience with modernization, migration, and Disaster Recovery initiatives.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical support, software engineering, or related field.
  • Proven expertise in L2 support and resolving complex issues.
  • Strong experience with SAST & DAST remediation and secure coding.
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (OpenShift preferred; Azure or AWS) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for production services, troubleshooting and minimizing downtime.
  • Lead security vulnerability remediation (SAST/DAST) and compliance efforts.
  • Execute modernization and migration projects to improve efficiency and resilience.
  • Develop, test, and maintain Disaster Recovery plans for business continuity.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and security metrics, identify optimizations.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote knowledge sharing.

What is the opportunity?

The SIAI Digital Development team is constantly undertaking complex development initiatives within Global Cyber Security. Our Digital Development team designs, architects, and builds bespoke solutions to support forward-thinking and industry leading initiatives from Cyber & Digital Threat Hunting, Cyber Analytics, Adversary Emulation, Data Loss Prevention teams.

We are seeking a Lead System Engineer to take ownership of critical production services. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, security, and performance of over 20+ production services, driving modernization, migration, and disaster recovery initiatives. You will be a key contributor in maintaining system health, resolving complex technical issues, and upholding security standards across our infrastructure.

What will you do?
  • Provide support for production services, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues to minimize downtime.
  • Lead security vulnerability remediation (SAST/DAST) efforts and other compliance initiatives, ensuring compliance with security best practices and policies.
  • Execute critical modernization and migration projects to enhance system efficiency, scalability, and resilience.
  • Develop, test, and maintain Disaster Recovery plans, ensuring business continuity in critical scenarios.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and security metrics, proactively identifying areas for optimization.
  • Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and technical growth.
What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Advanced Python skills with solid Django framework expertise
  • Knowledge of database systems (SQL, NoSQL) and RESTful API development.
  • Hands-on experience with modernization, migration, and Disaster Recovery initiatives.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical support, software engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (preferred OpenShift, good with Azure or AWS) and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a focus on clarity and precision
Nice-to-have
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools (Jenkins, Git, GitHub Actions).
  • Strong experience with SAST & DAST vulnerability remediation and implementing secure coding practices.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (ELK, Dynatrace, Grafana).
  • Experience with or knowledge of authentication & authorization frameworks (Entra ID/Azure AD).
  • Understanding of event-driven architecture and Gen AI tools
