Canadian Nuclear Unit in Pickering, ON seeks a Lead Structural Engineer to drive design for brownfield and greenfield nuclear structures, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure timely delivery.

The candidate should hold a Structural Engineering degree, 10+ years of relevant experience, and be eligible for P.Eng registration, with strong AutoCAD/MathCad/MS Office/STAAD Pro skills and an ability to obtain security clearance.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Structural Engineering or related discipline.
  • Ten (10+) years of related engineering experience is asset.
  • Registered or eligible to register with the PEO as a P.ENG.
  • Experience with nuclear plant stations, structures, and components is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Autocad, MathCad, MS Office, and STAAD Pro.

Responsibilities

  • Multitask on design for large or small projects and meet timelines.
  • Document and track project tasks and design documents.
  • Liaise with discipline leads, project managers, vendors, contractors and clients for design clarity.
  • Provide design clarifications and solutions during construction.
  • Perform inspections as necessary for procurement of material.

Your Role:

We are currently seeking a Lead Structural Engineer for our Pickering, ON offices. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various engineering assignments which require a general familiarity with a broad field of engineering. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Lead Structural Engineer will primarily focus on design for brown field as well as green field modifications for existing and/or new structures and components. Must be able to solve problems by use of combinations of standard and modified standard procedures, or methods developed in previous assignments. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Responsibilities:
  • Multitasking and the ability to perform design for large or small projects is an asset.
  • The candidate will be capable of committing to and maintaining a project timeline and completing tasks within allocated time frames.
  • The ability to document and track project tasks and related design documents is required (strong organizational skills).
  • Liaise with other discipline leads, project managers, vendors, contractors and clients to facilitate smooth flow of information for use in preparing preliminary and detailed design and provide design clarifications and solutions during construction.
  • Must have strong computer-oriented skills (familiarity with Autocad, MathCad, MS Office, Numerical Methods Solutions…etc.)
  • Proficiency in STAAD Pro Software for Structural Analysis.
  • Strong hand-on expertise in the design of heavy industrial structures (steel, concrete, wood, masonry), preferably in the power generation industry, and Consulting Engineering experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of power plant Station Structures and Components (SSCs) is an asset.
  • Preparation and/or verification of procurement activities and deliverables.
  • Review technical content of supplier/vendor bids and technical submissions.
  • Perform any required inspections as necessary for procurement of material.
  • Strong communication skills are required

  • Experience within the utility or power industry is considered an asset
  • Hands on expertise in structural design for concrete and steel structures and use of STAAD Pro Software for Structural Analysis
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance
