Job summary

Google Canada in Waterloo, Ontario seeks a Staff Software Developer to lead the Protected Data SRE team. You will be the technical anchor for change safety, observability, and massive data repair, while mentoring engineers and coordinating with executives and cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience including product demand/supply planning and inventory management.
• 3 years of Unix/Linux internals, administration and networking knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Drive strategy to reduce complexity ecosystem-wide, focusing on reuse to prevent new production risks.
• Partner with executive-level stakeholders and cross-functional programmes to balance product reliability against deadlines.
• Design company-wide capabilities for change safety, distributed observability, data repair, and control plane safety.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to developers, fostering collaboration across infrastructure stacks.
• Manage complex challenges of scale in Google Cloud, applying expertise in coding, algorithms, and large-scale system design.
• Optimize existing systems and build infrastructure, eliminating toil through automation.
• Monitor systems capacity and performance with a focus on reliability and uptime.
