Summary:
This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of a busy Shipping & Receiving team. It involves handling all transactions and the movement of materials both within the warehouse and for inbound and outbound shipments. The Shipping & Receiving Lead Hand plays a crucial role in our Operations team, constantly seeking better, more efficient, and cost-effective ways to improve processes. Additionally, the Lead Hand must be capable of driving momentum and enthusiasm to successfully implement changes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts safely and efficiently; must possess valid forklift certification.
- Schedule and coordinate inbound and outbound freight operations.
- Prepare and submit accurate customs documentation as required.
- Ensure First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices are consistently followed for inventory management.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to expedite timely clearance of shipments.
- Maintain accurate, timely records of materials received, issued, moved, produced, stored, and shipped.
- Read and interpret inventory batch tickets to ensure proper material handling.
- Update and maintain inventory records within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Oversee the organization and storage of materials in alignment with safety and quality standards.
- Stage and prepare ingredients and materials according to batch ticket specifications.
- Receive, move, store, and scan products accurately using handheld wireless devices.
- Utilize Oracle production tools and wireless handheld devices for precise material issuing and scanning.
- Support receiving, cycle counting, and shipping processes; provide guidance to warehouse staff as needed.
- Partner with cross-functional site leaders to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in audits and inspections as needed, ensuring full compliance with standards.
- Conduct routine quality checks to verify adherence to company standards and specifications.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of assigned work areas.
- Perform and document regular forklift inspections to ensure safe operation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve inventory-related issues ranging from basic to moderately complex.
- Communicate effectively with other facility personnel regarding delays or issues impacting production.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations as required for inventory and documentation tasks.
- Adhere to all employee safety, food safety, quality procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Ensure seamless shift handoffs by communicating pertinent information to incoming/outgoing operators.
- Complete all assigned duties accurately and on time, including additional tasks as delegated.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds as part of routine duties.
- Foster a strong, collaborative relationship with the Operations team.
- Consistently wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Complete all documentation and paperwork in a neat, legible, and professional manner.
- Demonstrate leadership and ownership of job responsibilities and overall departmental goals.
- Work independently while maintaining professional relationships with team members.
- Serve as a backup for the Warehouse Materials Coordinator role and vice versa.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum High School; associated degree or higher preferred.
- Experience in a related clerical occupation or as a warehouse worker.
- Forklift experience required.
- Experience with an SAP program (real-time tracking).
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A desire to succeed and good work ethic.
- Good verbal, written and multi-tasking skills, can do attitude.
- High-energy, flexible, self-starter.
- Attention to detail.
- Team player with a sense of urgency and self-accountability.
Additional Considerations:
The location for this role is in St. Davids, Ontario.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Approximately 100% of work is performed in a production environment.
- Must be available to work day and afternoon shifts.
- Must be able to stand/walk for majority of the shift.
- Competency in performing multiple tasks.
- Ability to organize and prioritize.
- Must have reliable transportation (location is off bus route).
