Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of a busy Shipping & Receiving team. It involves handling all transactions and the movement of materials both within the warehouse and for inbound and outbound shipments. The Shipping & Receiving Lead Hand plays a crucial role in our Operations team, constantly seeking better, more efficient, and cost-effective ways to improve processes. Additionally, the Lead Hand must be capable of driving momentum and enthusiasm to successfully implement changes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Operate forklifts safely and efficiently; must possess valid forklift certification.
  2. Schedule and coordinate inbound and outbound freight operations.
  3. Prepare and submit accurate customs documentation as required.
  4. Ensure First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices are consistently followed for inventory management.
  5. Collaborate with Quality Assurance to expedite timely clearance of shipments.
  6. Maintain accurate, timely records of materials received, issued, moved, produced, stored, and shipped.
  7. Read and interpret inventory batch tickets to ensure proper material handling.
  8. Update and maintain inventory records within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  9. Oversee the organization and storage of materials in alignment with safety and quality standards.
  10. Stage and prepare ingredients and materials according to batch ticket specifications.
  11. Receive, move, store, and scan products accurately using handheld wireless devices.
  12. Utilize Oracle production tools and wireless handheld devices for precise material issuing and scanning.
  13. Support receiving, cycle counting, and shipping processes; provide guidance to warehouse staff as needed.
  14. Partner with cross-functional site leaders to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  15. Participate in audits and inspections as needed, ensuring full compliance with standards.
  16. Conduct routine quality checks to verify adherence to company standards and specifications.
  17. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of assigned work areas.
  18. Perform and document regular forklift inspections to ensure safe operation.
  19. Troubleshoot and resolve inventory-related issues ranging from basic to moderately complex.
  20. Communicate effectively with other facility personnel regarding delays or issues impacting production.
  21. Perform basic mathematical calculations as required for inventory and documentation tasks.
  22. Adhere to all employee safety, food safety, quality procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  23. Ensure seamless shift handoffs by communicating pertinent information to incoming/outgoing operators.
  24. Complete all assigned duties accurately and on time, including additional tasks as delegated.
  25. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds as part of routine duties.
  26. Foster a strong, collaborative relationship with the Operations team.
  27. Consistently wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  28. Complete all documentation and paperwork in a neat, legible, and professional manner.
  29. Demonstrate leadership and ownership of job responsibilities and overall departmental goals.
  30. Work independently while maintaining professional relationships with team members.
  31. Serve as a backup for the Warehouse Materials Coordinator role and vice versa.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum High School; associated degree or higher preferred.
  2. Experience in a related clerical occupation or as a warehouse worker.
  3. Forklift experience required.
  4. Experience with an SAP program (real-time tracking).
  5. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  6. A desire to succeed and good work ethic.
  7. Good verbal, written and multi-tasking skills, can do attitude.
  8. High-energy, flexible, self-starter.
  9. Attention to detail.
  10. Team player with a sense of urgency and self-accountability.

Additional Considerations:

The location for this role is in St. Davids, Ontario.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  1. Approximately 100% of work is performed in a production environment.
  2. Must be available to work day and afternoon shifts.
  3. Must be able to stand/walk for majority of the shift.
  4. Competency in performing multiple tasks.
  5. Ability to organize and prioritize.
  6. Must have reliable transportation (location is off bus route).
