Job summary

Kepler Communications seeks a Lead Satellite Systems Engineer to serve as the primary technical authority for satellite and space-system programs, ensuring design integrity, integration, verification, and mission readiness from concept through delivery.

The ideal candidate has experience delivering at least one satellite-level program lifecycle and can lead cross-functional teams while balancing technical goals with cost, schedule, risk, and customer expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in space systems engineering, spacecraft development, satellite systems integration, or a related technical leadership role
  • Experience delivering through at least one satellite-level program lifecycle (architecture, design, integration, verification, delivery)
  • Strong knowledge of satellite systems engineering (requirements, architecture, verification, budgets, risk, readiness)
  • Experience leading major technical reviews and readiness milestones (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, MRR/MRB, FRR)
  • Willingness to leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity and quality
  • Familiarity with configuration management and verification evidence management
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams through uncertainty and high-pressure milestones
  • Excellent technical writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Strong decision-making and risk-management skills
  • Detail-oriented with a pragmatic, can-do approach
  • Commitment to equity and inclusive workplace practices

Responsibilities

  • Be the lead systems engineering authority for satellite programs or major technical scopes, ensuring design integrity and mission readiness
  • Translate objectives and constraints into clear technical direction across architecture, interfaces, and verification
  • Lead system-level design and integration across spacecraft subsystems for whole-system performance
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Product Assurance, suppliers, and leadership to align execution and close decisions
  • Lead technical reviews, trade studies, anomaly investigations, and readiness milestones with clear recommendations
  • Manage technical risks by structuring ambiguous problems and maintaining escalation paths
  • Represent the technical team in program reviews, customer briefings, and leadership updates
  • Mentor engineers to improve systems engineering, integration, verification, and review practices
