Job description

The Lead Restoration Technician is a hands-on working leader responsible for helping coordinate and complete emergency mitigation and restoration services involving water, fire, smoke, mould, biohazard, contents, and other forms of property damage.

The Lead Technician provides direction and support to technicians and general labourers while working alongside the crew. This position helps ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, professionally, and in accordance with company procedures, applicable regulations, and recognized industry standards.

The successful candidate must demonstrate leadership, reliability, sound judgment, quality workmanship, and professional communication with customers, coworkers, subcontractors, adjusters, and other project stakeholders.

PuroClean operates as a collaborative team. Although each employee has primary responsibilities, all team members are expected to assist one another and perform duties outside their usual roles when reasonably required to meet customer, project, safety, or operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Responding to residential and commercial property-damage emergencies
  • Leading and participating in water extraction, structural drying, demolition, cleaning, deodorization, mould remediation, fire and smoke restoration, contents handling, and other restoration activities
  • Reviewing the assigned scope of work with the Project Manager and helping organize the crew, equipment, materials, and site activities
  • Providing clear daily direction to technicians and labourers
  • Working alongside the crew and assisting with all aspects of the project as required
  • Ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures and applicable industry standards
  • Conducting initial and ongoing site inspections as assigned
  • Identifying visible damage, safety concerns, possible hazards, and changes in the project scope
  • Taking and recording moisture readings and monitoring drying progress
  • Setting up, monitoring, maintaining, and removing drying, air-filtration, extraction, and other restoration equipment
  • Completing selective demolition and removal of damaged building materials
  • Protecting unaffected areas and customers’ belongings from further damage
  • Taking clear photographs and maintaining accurate job documentation
  • Completing daily work records, equipment logs, moisture documentation, notes, authorizations, and other required paperwork
  • Promptly reporting unexpected conditions, additional damage, scope changes, delays, customer concerns, or safety issues to management
  • Communicating professionally and respectfully with property owners, occupants, adjusters, subcontractors, and other stakeholders
  • Explaining the work being performed without making unauthorized commitments regarding insurance coverage, pricing, completion dates, or scope
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe worksite
  • Ensuring company tools, equipment, vehicles, and materials are used properly and cared for
  • Monitoring crew performance and providing coaching, instruction, and feedback
  • Helping train and develop new technicians
  • Confirming that assigned work has been completed to company quality standards before leaving the site
  • Participating in after‑hours and on‑call emergency response when scheduled or required
  • Assisting with warehouse organization, vehicle readiness, equipment maintenance, inventory, cleaning, deliveries, and other operational requirements
  • Supporting other employees and departments when workload, scheduling, emergencies, or business needs require it
  • Performing other reasonable duties assigned by management
The Lead Restoration Technician is expected to:
  • Lead by example and maintain a positive, solutions‑focused attitude
  • Arrive prepared, organized, and on time
  • Give clear, respectful, and practical direction
  • Hold themselves and the crew accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism
  • Escalate problems promptly rather than allowing issues to continue
  • Treat customers’ homes, businesses, possessions, and personal circumstances with care and respect
  • Protect confidential customer, employee, and company information
  • Promote cooperation and teamwork across the organization
  • Remain composed and professional in stressful or emotionally sensitive situations
Qualifications and Experience
  • Previous experience in property restoration, construction, demolition, remediation, cleaning, or a related field
  • Previous crew‑lead or supervisory experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of water‑damage mitigation and structural‑drying procedures is strongly preferred
  • IICRC Water Restoration Technician certification is preferred
  • Additional IICRC or relevant health‑and‑safety certifications are considered assets
  • Valid driver’s licence and an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, email, and job‑documentation software
  • Ability to read work orders, scopes, measurements, safety information, and equipment instructions
  • Criminal‑record check will be required because work is performed in customers’ homes and businesses
Physical and Working Requirements
The position requires the ability to:
  • Perform physically demanding work for extended periods
  • Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials
  • Work while standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing
  • Safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, and restoration equipment
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when required
  • Work in environments that may be wet, dirty, dusty, hot, cold, odorous, confined, or affected by fire, water, mould, sewage, or other contaminants
  • Travel throughout Windsor‑Essex County and, occasionally, outside the regular service area
  • Work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended hours in response to emergencies or project requirements
