Lead Registered Veterinary Technologist, RVT
Lynn Valley Animal Hospital is welcoming a Lead Veterinary Technologist RVT to join our team!
The ideal candidate will support, lead, and direct the team in a professional and kind manner while recognizing the responsibilities involved in responding to client and co-worker questions. The Lead RVT will also work closely with the hospital’s leadership team to promote a positive hospital image and continuously work towards the betterment of the hospital team.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct assistance to the Veterinarian with appointments and surgeries, handling patients for procedures as necessary.
- Perform routine procedures such as IV catheterization, administering SQF and IV fluids, anal glands, nail trims, injections, vaccines, bandage care, microchips, post-surgery checks, suture, staple, and drain removal.
- Take a lead role in surgery intake, preparation, sedation, induction, maintenance of GA, and monitoring patients during and after procedures.
- Record observations on patients, including changes in status and pain assessments.
- Perform lab procedures such as blood collection, cystocentesis, blood pressure monitoring, and in-house laboratory tests like cytology.
- Conduct dental exams, x-rays, and cleanings.
- Maintain equipment and manage inventory of medical supplies and medications.
- Perform radiology functions, including setting equipment, positioning, and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate hospital logs, patient records, and notes.
- Provide client education on nutrition, home care, medication administration, and post-operative care.
- Follow guidelines for medication dispensing, preparation, and storage.
- Assist with euthanasia procedures, explaining options for cremation and memorial keepsakes.
- Occasionally perform emergency procedures such as evaluating life signs, resuscitation, intubation, external cardiac massage, administering medications and fluids, and wound care.
- Maintain current membership registration with relevant professional bodies, if applicable.
- Follow professional guidelines and regulations, including mandatory continuing education.
- Participate in TA / VA and Client Care Specialist duties if required.
Leadership Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist management in training new staff and support, coach, mentor, and motivate team members.
- Create an inspiring team environment with open communication.
- Recognize and resolve conflicts promptly, submitting incident reports when necessary, and escalate concerns to leadership.
- Coordinate and recruit locums and specialists, oversee surgical bookings.
- Assist with conducting annual reviews and coaching sessions, gather feedback from staff.
- Help plan continuing education events and update training manuals, protocols, and responsibilities.
Compensation: $ to $ per hour. The rate varies depending on location and other factors.
