Position: Lead Quantum Engineer/Experimental Physicist

Location: In Person - Toronto or Waterloo, ON

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantum Engineer/Experimental Physicist to lead experiments using state of the art quantum sensors. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, conducting, and optimizing experiments, maintaining advanced quantum sensing equipment, and ensuring operational excellence. Additional expertise in reducing and analyzing data in a geophysical context is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments using quantum sensors.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced quantum sensing equipment, ensuring optimal performance and calibration.
  • Develop and implement experimental protocols to achieve reliable and reproducible results.
  • Collect, process, and analyze experimental data, with a focus on applications in geophysical contexts.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, data scientists, and geophysicists, to integrate experimental results into broader project objectives.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and findings in detailed reports and present them to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on advancements in quantum sensing and technologies to incorporate cutting-edge techniques into experiments.
  • Contribute to the development of new quantum sensing devices or improvements to existing systems.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Physics, Quantum Physics, Engineering, or a related field with a focus on experimental quantum technologies. B.Sc. degree with significant relevant experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in experimental physics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in operating and maintaining quantum sensing devices.
  • Proven track record of designing and conducting experiments in a laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Passion for space exploration and commercialization.
  • Excellent time management, documentation and organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in reducing and analyzing experimental data in a geophysical context.
  • Familiarity with control systems and data acquisition tools for experimental setups.
  • Familiarity with geophysical modeling tools or software (e.g., Geosoft, GMT, or similar).
