Job summary

Arcanaut Studios is seeking a Lead Quality Assurance Analyst to design, set up and execute test systems for a AAA sci-fi RPG. You will drive quality across combat, quests, and world state while collaborating with engineering and design teams to push proactive QA improvements.

The role emphasizes moving from break-fix to proactive QA, with a remote-friendly, flexible work setup and a competitive compensation package. Expect to help shape testing strategies for a live, evolving title.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of QA experience with at least one shipped AAA title preferably an RPG
• Technical literacy with Unreal Engine, JIRA and automation
• A deep understanding of Action RPG mechanics, including combat balancing and world persistence

Responsibilities

• Design and execute comprehensive test plans for action RPG systems such as combat and progression
• Perform systematic testing on edge-case scenarios and complex player outcomes
• Identify, document and track defects using tools like JIRA with clear reproduction steps
• Participate in sprint planning to assess feature feasibility and risks
• Conduct rigorous regression testing to protect existing game systems
• Collaborate with external development to maximize testing coverage
• Generate weekly test reports and coordinate QA assignments

As the Lead Quality Assurance Analyst, you will design, set up and execute a variety of test systems and clean reporting processes for a AAA sci-fi RPG game.You will drive insights to complex branching narrative systems, core mechanics, loops, quests, missions and visuals.You are more than a bug hunter; you are a specialist ensuring the integrity of our most complex systems.You work directly with engineering and design teams to vet new action RPG features such as real-time combat, inventory persistence, and world state triggers, long before they reach the public.Your goal is to move the needle from reactive “break-fixing” to proactive quality assurance.

Responsibilities

Design and execute comprehensive test plans and test suites tailored to specific action RPG systems like combat AI, quest logic, and progression Perform systematic testing on “edge-case” scenarios, such as 3D world trigger interactions and complex player choice outcomes Identify, document, and track software defects using tools including automation and JIRA, providing detailed reproduction steps and impact analysis for developers Actively participate in in sprint planning and meetings to provide perspective on feature feasibility and potential technical risks Conduct rigorous regression testing to ensure new fixes do not negatively impact existing game systems Work with External development to maximize testing abilities Generate weekly test reports and burn downs Assign areas of QA testing to others for a thorough validation of build and its contents

Qualifications and Experience

5+ years of QA experience with at least one shipped AAA title preferably an RPG Technical literacy with Unreal Engine, JIRA and automation A deep understanding of Action RPG mechanics, including combat balancing and world persistence Strong professional communication for providing constructive, diplomacy-focused feedback to the development team Ability to think in the abstract to see how small details fit into a massive action AAA RPG

The hiring range for this position is $75,000-$120,000 CDN in addition to a bi-yearly performance-based bonus. The base pay may vary depending on the candidate’s region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
