Job summary

WSP Canada is seeking a senior energy & process engineering leader based in Canada to take charge of complex EPCM energy projects from concept through detailed design. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, interface with clients, and guide project engineering to deliver high-quality outcomes in a dynamic environment.

Based in Calgary or Edmonton, you’ll help advance sustainable energy solutions and manage scope, schedule, and cost while mentoring engineers and shaping project

Qualifications

  • Post-Graduate in Engineering.
  • P.Eng or P.Tech designation.
  • 10–15 years of EPCM experience in the energy industry with 7–10 years of direct project engineering experience in natural gas transmission and compression projects.
  • At least 2 years experience as a technical Project Lead dealing directly with clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience creating mechanical drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, Isometrics), line designation tables, Shutdown Key and Control Narratives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, acting as main contact with the client and stakeholders.
  • Experience with Risk Management and Management of Change.
  • Experience coordinating meetings with clients and multiple groups, stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality work under competing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, scheduling, and estimation of engineering design activities from concept to construction-ready drawings and specifications.
  • Drive project success by identifying risks early and ensuring quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and provide technical direction across deliverables.
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory standards and client procedures while aligning with project goals.
  • Oversee and approve engineering designs and maintain QA across documents.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with clients, providing guidance on complex challenges.
  • Support project execution through cost estimating, risk assessment, change management and documentation.
  • Mentor engineers and foster technical growth within the team.

Join WSP's Energy & Process team-part of our ERI sector-supporting projects across Canada and globally, from conventional energy to low-carbon transition solutions.

In this role, you'll lead complex energy projects from concept through detailed engineering, working in a client-facing capacity and collaborating across disciplines to deliver high-quality outcomes. Based in one of our Canadian offices (with preference for Calgary, or Edmonton), you'll contribute to impactful work that advances sustainable energy solutions and meets evolving industry demands.

Your Impact
  • Lead the planning, scheduling, and estimation of engineering design activities, guiding projects from initial concept through to the issuance of construction-ready drawings and specifications
  • Drive project success by developing strategies that identify key risks early and ensure delivery against quality, schedule, and cost objectives
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, providing technical direction and ensuring alignment across all project deliverables
  • Interpret project scope and specifications, ensuring designs meet technical requirements, regulatory standards, and WSP engineering best practices
  • Oversee and approve engineering designs, maintaining quality assurance and ensuring consistency with project goals and company standards
  • Act as the primary technical interface with clients, providing expert guidance and recommendations on complex engineering challenges
  • Support project execution through cost estimating, risk assessment, change management, and the preparation of engineering control documentation
  • Mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical growth, supporting professional development, and strengthening overall team capability
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Post-Graduate in Engineering;
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation;
  • At least 10 to 15 years of previous experience in an EPCM environment in the energy industry with 7-10 years direct project engineering experience specifically in Natural Gas transmission and compression projects;
  • At least 2 years experience as a technical Project Lead dealing directly with clients and other project stakeholders;
  • Experience creating mechanical drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, Isometrics), line designation tables, Shutdown Key and Control Narratives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, act as main contact with the client and various stakeholders;
  • Experience with Risk Management and Management of Change;
  • Experience directly dealing with clients coordinating meetings, creating project status reports and dealing with different groups, stakeholders and disciplines;
  • Proven ability to produce high quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines;
  • Proven independent project leader;
  • Ability to prioritize activities, adapt to change, and stay focused in a dynamic environment;
  • Demonstrated skills on concept and developed design optimization programs to guide sound technical guidance for decision making;
  • Knows, understands, and complies with all client and corporate procedures;
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and discretion when working with confidential information.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $122,900 - $162,800

MB & ON: $112,100 - $154,400

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $111,000 - $147,400
