Job Description

Our Energy and Process subsector, part of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients coast to coast. From small installations to large megaprojects, we support upstream, midstream, or downstream oil and gas activities and energy transition markets at all project stages worldwide. We focus on design, engineering, and environmental services that promote climate adaptation, water and marine resource protection, biodiversity, and low carbon solutions. Our experts aim to meet industry standards and innovate beyond them.

WSP is seeking a Lead Project Engineer to join any of our Canadian offices, preferably in Calgary, AB, Moncton, NB, or Kitchener, ON.

In this role, you will lead energy projects from concept to detailed engineering, collaborating across disciplines to meet and exceed project goals. Responsibilities include project planning, scheduling, estimating, risk assessments, proposals, and more. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience as a Project Lead on similar projects and be ready to make a significant impact.

What you can expect to do:

  • Plan, schedule, and estimate design engineering efforts from concept to construction documentation
  • Assist in proposal development
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and design elements
  • Develop project strategies to ensure quality, schedule, and cost objectives
  • Interpret project specifications and scope across disciplines
  • Review and approve designs for compliance and quality
  • Coordinate discipline deliverables
  • Prepare engineering control documents
  • Monitor design changes and support change order development
  • Serve as main technical contact with clients
  • Provide technical recommendations on complex project aspects
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical reports
  • Mentor junior engineers and team members
  • Develop technical drawings and deliverables such as P&IDs, Line Lists, and DBMs
  • Create Scope of Work or Specifications for Mechanical Equipment
  • Maintain quality control and assurance
  • Review work of others

What you’ll bring:

  • Post-Graduate Engineering degree
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation
  • 10-15 years in EPCM energy industry, with 7-10 years in project engineering
  • At least 2 years as a Project Lead with client interaction
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in client coordination and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality work under deadlines
  • Independent project leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt in dynamic environments
  • Experience with technical design optimization
  • Knowledge of client and corporate procedures
