Job description

Lead Product Engineer, Full Stack / Applied AI

Advanced Aircrew Academy

Remote (Eastern or Central Time, Canada or U.S.) Full-time Reporting to Co-CEO (Operations) Travel: 10 to 20%; must hold a valid passport and be eligible to travel internationally.

About Advanced Aircrew Academy
At Advanced Aircrew Academy, we help flight departments elevate safety, exceed standards, and stay mission-ready. Through modern training, we empower tens of thousands of aviation professionals to operate with compliance, simplicity, and scalability.
The Role
Operators must keep crews trained, qualified and ready to fly, but that still means assembling training by hand and reconciling records across disconnected tools. We build software that removes that work, and AI that turns an operator’s own materials into courseware that teaches better, not just faster.
You own day-to-day product management and engineering delivery: discover problems, shape and prioritize the roadmap, design solutions, then personally build, launch and improve them. You will build primarily with coding agents, and you own the practices that keep that safe: code review, tests, access, and what an agent can change without a human.
This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role for an engineer who wants to decide what should be built and then build it. This is an opportunity to build the engineering function of a market‑leading company entering its next stage of growth.
Who You Work With

  • Co-CEO (Operations). Your partner on product and design. Major direction and investment choices are joint; within agreed goals and budgets, product and technical decisions are yours.
  • Director of Courseware. Your main aviation partner, with other specialists, from discovery through validation. They own regulatory interpretation and content approval; you turn their knowledge into clear, tested software.
  • Customer Success, Chief of Staff and Commercial. They bring customer and operational input; you turn it into product decisions without waiting for complete specifications.

What You Step Into
  • Working software in production for course creation and delivery, training records and reporting, which customers rely on for compliance and audits, plus an AI courseware system our courseware team already uses.
  • React/TypeScript, PostgreSQL and AWS. Transferable depth matters more than familiarity with every tool. Interviews include the codebase.

What You Will Own
  • Customer discovery and product design start on day one.
  • Reliability and data integrity. Own software reliability and integrity: accurate records, secure customer data, traceable changes, and the tests, monitoring and recovery behind them.
  • Better courseware, faster. Improve the AI system that turns customer materials and requirements into courseware that teaches better and costs less to produce and keep current, with expert review where required.
  • Readiness workflows. Build workflows that connect training to qualifications, records and readiness, and replace manual work customers do today.

How You Work
  • High agency. You clarify goals, dig in, recommend, move work forward and flag blockers early.
  • Good judgement. You weigh value, time, cost and reliability, and know when to build, buy, integrate, repair or do less. You make complex workflows simple and fix confusing steps from user feedback.
  • Root‑cause problem‑solving. You reason from first principles and fix causes, not symptoms.
  • Player/coach leadership. You build and ship while reviewing, coaching and documenting, so the team relies on you less over time.
  • Effective communication. You write clearly, explain tradeoffs to nontechnical colleagues, disagree constructively and raise risks early.

What You Will Bring
  • Product ownership. You have taken a B2B product or substantial feature from an unclear need into production and sustained use.
  • Full‑stack engineering. 6+ years of professional software engineering, building and maintaining production systems: interfaces, backend services, APIs and relational data models. You can read and review code you didn’t write and explain why it works, not just that it runs. You are especially strong on trustworthy records and data, and you improve inherited code without defaulting to a rewrite.
  • AI‑native development. AI is central to how you build, not an add‑on. You hold current, reasoned opinions on which models, coding agents and harnesses fit which jobs, and update them as the tools change. You have shipped AI features to real users and can show how you tested output quality, handled failures, controlled cost and decided where human review was needed. You know when conventional software is the better choice.
  • Production operation. You have run cloud applications, handled incidents and made safe database changes. Tests, deployment, monitoring, security and recovery are part of delivery.

Our Purpose and Values
  • Purpose: To be the world’s most trusted aviation training partner.
  • Values:
  • Mission‑Driven Focus: One life saved makes it all worth it.
  • People Serving People: Real people, real service.
  • Change Champions: Advanced means moving forward.
  • Decide. Do. Deliver: Decisions drive action, actions drive impact.
  • One Aircrew: Shared responsibility, shared success.

What We Offer
  • Meaningful Impact. Contribute to a culture where every initiative, innovation, and interaction is aimed at strengthening aviation safety.
  • Ownership and Growth. Build and lead an AI engineering function and partner directly with company leadership on the decisions that shape the product.
  • Strategic Influence. Help shape how we position the company, reach the market, engage customers, and build the next stage of growth.
  • Remote Flexibility. Work remotely, with regular in‑person collaboration.
  • Compensation and Benefits. Competitive salary based on experience, plus annual bonus. Medical, dental, and vision coverage, charitable giving match, retirement savings, and a generous PTO policy.
