Job summary

NordSpace in Markham, Ontario, seeks a senior Plasma Physicist to own the physics of Hall effect thrusters and related electric propulsion concepts. You will lead plasma modelling, discharge design, and diagnostics, translating results into thruster performance and spacecraft integration in a fast‑moving startup.

The role requires a PhD in Plasma or Applied Physics, hands‑on experience with electric propulsion devices, and Python plus C/C++ skills.

Qualifications

• PhD in Plasma Physics, Applied Physics or related field; dissertation in low-temperature plasmas or electric propulsion.
• Hands‑on experience with electric propulsion devices, especially Hall thrusters.
• Strong command of plasma modelling methods and programming in Python and a compiled language.
• Familiarity with high‑vacuum systems and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own the plasma-physics design of Hall effect thrusters and related concepts.
• Develop and apply plasma models to predict discharge behaviour and plume structure.
• Define performance envelopes and trace to physical mechanisms.
• Lead trade studies across thruster class and propellant options.
