Job description

Position Summary

The Factory Planning and Automation Engineer will support capacity planning and high-level factory layout planning. They will also contribute to production network planning for North America and be involved in developing and maintaining S&OP processes, focusing on equipment requirements and utilization reporting. The automation engineering component will work closely with the Lead Automation Engineer and manufacturing teams to identify opportunities where automation and Industry 4.0 solutions can improve quality, reduce costs, and increase capacity in critical areas.

What You Will Do:

  1. Plan factory layouts for existing and new plants, including plant structure, logistics, facilities, and operations requirements.
  2. Collaborate with LoB, DnA, and local teams to develop and maintain a robust S&OP process.
  3. Perform capacity planning for the North American network, aligning production capacity with demand.
  4. Support production network planning under the guidance of the Principle Project Manager for Factory Planning.
  5. Work with global counterparts to maintain knowledge of Industry 4.0 solutions, including collaborative robots, image recognition, sensors, and predictive maintenance tools.
  6. Support IoT initiatives to enhance equipment and process monitoring for better decision-making.
  7. Analyze and optimize manufacturing KPIs, processes, and flow using lean principles and value stream mapping.
  8. Assist with feasibility studies, risk analyses, business cases, and financial studies for Industry 4.0 projects.
  9. Travel approximately 25%, up to 40% during new facility launches.
  10. Support VistaPrint’s mission, vision, strategic goals, and management decisions.
  11. Perform other duties as required.

What You Need:

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a lean environment.
  • Experience with short and mid-term equipment capacity planning.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Python, C++, and/or SQL is a plus.
  • Experience with automation and IoT implementations is an asset.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Process Engineering.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Team player mindset.
