Job description

Lead Pastor

The Lead Pastor is to shepherd the flock under the Great Shepherd, Jesus Christ, and is foundationally connected to God through prayer and study/application of God’s Word. The Lead Pastor is the senior staff member, providing servant-leadership to the Elders and Deacons and all other staff.

You will:

  1. Passionately serve, teach, shepherd the people of First Baptist Church Ponoka (FBCP) in their Christian walk and outreach by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  2. Represent the church to the community, and discover ways (with the assistance of leadership) to serve the community.
Worship – Preaching, Discipleship, Ordinances

Through teaching and instruction, the Lead Pastor instructs our fellowship in the truth of God’s Word with clarity, courage, compassion. Rooted in God’s Word and connected to Him through prayer, the Lead Pastor will preach God’s Word, guide the congregation in prayer and discipleship and help leadership and the congregation strengthen their faith.

The Lead Pastor, along with the Elders, will be responsible for:

  1. Regular congregational practice of Communion
  2. Baptisms

The Lead Pastor, with the Worship Deacon, oversees Sunday Worship.

Shepherding – Serving/Caring

The Lead Pastor is responsible for:

  1. Offering counsel through times of crisis and life events and/or refer congregants to qualified counselors when deemed necessary.
  2. Providing marriage counseling, conducting marriage ceremonies, funerals/celebration of life.
  3. Visiting the congregation (along with the Elders) and praying for the needs of the church.
  4. Overseeing the integration of new people into the church.
Servant-Leadership

The Lead Pastor will:

  1. Motivate the congregation to fulfill the mission and vision of the church.
  2. Lead and manage pastoral and administrative staff.
  3. Embrace and encourage all the gifts of the Holy Spirit within the church body.
  4. Attend Elders and Deacons meetings as an ex-officio member.
  5. Be a member of an Associate Pastor Search Committee and the Constitution Committee.
Details

The Lead Pastor will maintain and exhibit a life filled with a personal and growing relationship with Christ. The Lead Pastor shall be a graduate of an accredited theological seminary and have significant work experience recognized by the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada. The Lead Pastor will adhere to the FBCP Constitution and Bylaws, and follow the Church Policies. The Lead Pastor’s term of office shall extend indefinitely except as otherwise provided in the FBCP Constitution and Bylaws. Exceptions to be approved by the congregation. When the pastor (and spouse) is no longer employed by the congregation, their membership will be terminated.
