Summary of Function:

The Alaqsite’w Gitpu School is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Lead Math Teacher to work with our teaching staff and students. The Lead Math Teacher will focus on assisting teachers and students with the mathematics curriculum and outcomes. The incumbent is responsible for creating a cohesive school-wide mathematics plan as well as evaluating curriculum, assessing teaching strategies, and providing support for students experiencing math difficulties. This role must be open to collaboration and curriculum development. The Lead Math Teacher will report to the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School Principal, working closely with the Education team, and must be willing and able to provide a professional development plan for teachers and support staff.

Job Duties:

• Implement math curriculum.
• Provide ongoing support and coaching to teachers in implementing effective math instruction, including classroom observations, feedback and modeling strategies.
• Provide and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers on topics like curriculum, teaching strategies and data analysis.
• Foster collaboration among teachers and support staff to create a cohesive approach to math instruction.
• Provide targeted instruction and intervention strategies for students who need additional support.
• Use assessment information to plan and differentiate instruction.
• Support teachers in analyzing and interpreting data to improve student outcomes.
• Develop and implement a schoolwide mathematics plan that includes curriculum, standardized testing and other relevant initiatives.
• Incorporate Mi’gmaq understanding of mathematics in instruction and lessons.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the math program and make recommendations for improvement.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Provincial Teaching Certificate with a strong background in Mathematics.
• Must provide a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Strong knowledge of Mi’gmaq culture and community.
• French/Mi’gmaq language is considered an asset.
