Job description

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Major Projects Land and Permitting team.
  • Manage a team of Land Analysts and Business Analysts to complete project and department related goals and objectives.
  • Direct and provide oversight to land team and contract land service providers (brokers), ensuring deliverables are met
  • Oversee the closeout and transition of land records and obligations from major projects into operational systems and practices.
  • Develop and implement standardized processes, tools, and templates to support scalable land practices across major projects and integration into the base business.
  • Act as a liaison between internal teams, clients, landowners, legal counsel, Crown agencies, and service providers, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Monitor and report on land-related commitments, damage settlements, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring data accuracy and transparency.
  • Oversee the audit and validation of land turnover documentation, ensuring compliance and accurate representation in the land management system.
  • Collaborate with project leads on reclamation and remediation activities, providing administrative and strategic support for project delivery.
  • Manage team performance, including workload distribution, training, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure effective use of internal systems and databases (e.g., Borealis, SharePoint), and contribute to their continuous improvement.
  • Represent the Land department in senior-level meetings, contributing to decision-making and strategic planning.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-10 years of pipeline experience in land acquisition, land administration, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Post-secondary education in Surface Land Administration, Business, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of surface land rights (Crown and freehold), regulatory frameworks (CER, AER, AEP, AUC, BC-ER, FCBC), and permitting processes in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Strong understanding of land acquisition documentation, including lease and crossing agreements.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and land systems such as SPIN2, ETS, LTSA, AMS, GIS; knowledge of Power BI is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
